YahooMail and Porn!

Last week I opened an e-mail on my yahoo account that I thought was from a minister friend of my husbands. Boy was I surprised to see a very, how shall I say, revealing picture of a man, a woman, and whip cream! Now I'm getting e-mails DAILY that are from various porn sites and singles sites!

Is there anyway to stop them all beyond cancelling my yahoo account? I've learned my lesson, I don't open ANYTHING that I'm not 100% sure where it came from and I'm blocking all the e-mail addresses and sending notice to yahoo that it is spam.

So is there anything else I can do?

YIKES! I don't know how to stop them. I didn't know that just opening an email would result in porn spam :( I have learned something new today.

The only certain way to stop them is to change your email account. Or put up with it and just delete it.

I know that you are looking into broadband internet. If you think that you are getting a lot of SPAM now, just wait until your high speed connection to the internet is established. There are all sorts of people on the internet that are harvesting email accounts for these sorts of mailing lists. It doesn't take very long for the spammers to find your new email and filling your mailbox with junk. It's a shame that there isn't some surefire way of blocking all this nonsense.

I've noticed a lot of the same with Yahoo mail as well. When I can I unsubscribe immediately. When I can't, I simply delete.

Get a program called MailWasher. It will help bounce and delete spam of all kinds. You can mark entire domain names as spam and also can mark your friends.

Doesn't catch all, but does catch most.

You sure it wasn't from a Minister friend of your husband's?

Sorry....we just got a big shock/betrayal from our church's Pastor...so now I feel anything is possible! What a world we live in! :(

Good luck getting rid of that mail.

We have AOL and get all kinds of porn. Most recently I got a couple of im's with porn links on it. I clicked on the first one because I didnt have a clue what it was. After that I just set our accounts to receive only im's from ppl on our list. Really makes me mad they do that kind of crap since I do have kids that use the computer. Arent there enough people going to porn sites because they want to?? Why do they have to try to drag all of us there?

I'm with you 4greatboys!!

My boys use the computer too & it stinks that can't be online & have an e-mail account without all this rubbish coming their way. I actually went out & bought Net Nanny, but to be honest it is more trouble than it's worth. It totally messed my computer up!:(

I received an IM from someone ages ago, not realising what it was & opened it & was disgusted. I replied with some not very nice words about what they sent.

Also try Ad-Aware from Lavasoft. This will pick up & delete any spyware you may have.

I use Yahoo as well. Keep clicking on the "this is spam" link next to the address & it will give you an option to block the address & to report it to their spamguard techs. Blocking the address will make the email bounce back to the sender & they'll think it's a closed account. Most of the spam I get goes into my bulk mail folder where it's easy to delete.

Haven't had any trouble with my yahoo account, but I do with my hotmail one. I just block and delete it all.

where it says this is spam up near the addy click here and say yes and it should allow you to block the addy!

there is also a spot where you can on the side where it says bulk click on that and and your bulk mail folder will open. If it says spam gaurd off click on where it says turn spam gaurd on
this should send all spam type mail here but if you aslo have signed up for email from disney or any other business you frequent it may start turning up here too!

hope this helps as I have yahoo email too! once in awhile will get email from other sources and just block it!

This is one of the reasons I left AOL and am now using Yahoo for mail! I guess it won't be long before I find it on this account too.

don't click the unsubscribe link - it only tells then you are alive and they send more.

NEVER EVER UNSUBSCRIBE!!! That just confirms that you have that email address.

I've never had a problem with Yahoo mail. Could it be that someone signed up for porn mail using your email address, either on purpose or by accident? I get some other person's mail all the time!!! My email address is unicornprincess and there's some other person that has unicornprincess2000 and when she signs up for emails and leaves off the 2000, I unfortunatly get it.

But besides signing up for an entirely new email address, all you can do is set your spam gaurd to the highest possible setting and delete anything that gets to the inbox. Just remember not to open them and whatever you do DO NOT HIT UNSUBSCRIBE!!!
