Yachtsman vs. Shula's for steak

Hi everyone,

We would like to do a steakhouse night. Any opinions on a comparison between the Yachtsman Steakhouse and Shula's?

My fiance likes his steak very plain, no funky sauces, and is a steak fry fan. I'm interested in a quiet, romantic atmosphere and a good salad.

Thanks for any input!

Haven't been to Yachtsman, but we did Shula's last March. We weren't particularly impressed with the food or the service. Atmosphere is more "businessy" than romantic. I've heard good things about Yachtsman - hopefully someone will come along soon with a comparison.

Yachtsman is on our list for next trip.

I have not been to Shula's, but we go to the Yachtsman on every trip. We have always had very good food and excellent service.

I don't know if they have steak fries or not, I order other sides. They do put some sauces on the steaks, but they would be more than happy to leave them off for you. Salads, I am not sure about either.. I know they have them, but I have never ordered one. They have wonderful breads with roasted garlic to spread on it. I have to make myself stop eating it!

I had the same dilemma and have choosen Yachtsmen as it serves kids meals too, and seems less pricey and less stuffy.

Just got back and while we didn't eat at Shula's, did eat at both the Yachtsman and Flying Fish. My husband is a plain food guy, and loved the Flying Fish over the Yachtsman. Yachtsman we got scalloped potatoes, the Flying Fish, carmalized red onions and steamed leeks. Didn't tell my husband what he was eating til he said he really liked it. He was surprised.

When some plans changed on our vacation, I was able to get a last minute reservation at Yatchsman Steakhouse and I took it. It was extremely difficult to get ADR's since it was during free dining week. But I had always wanted to eat there anyway, so I was thinking it was perfect.

I have to say, I was not overly impressed with either the service or the food. There was nothing special about it. I would have to say skip it, I have heard amazing things about Shulas. I would have went to Shulas, had we not be on free dining with disney.!!!! Maybe next time!

Never eaten at Schula's.

Dh and I ate at the Yachtsman for our romantic honeymoon dinner a few weeks ago. It was lovely! We ordered the chateaubriand for two...for $80 we thought this better be the greatest steak ever. Luckily it was great! It DID have some kind of hollandaise sauce on it but you can ask that it be left "naked". It was served sliced over the best mashed potatoes ever! And as another poster pointed out, I could LIVE on the bread with roasted garlic spread. The menu was very $$$$$ but I suppose that's ok if the food is good. The service was quite attentive, which I think was helped by the fact that we actually DRESSED for the place (I got all dolled up and DH wore a collared shirt, dockers, boat shoes). There were people in tee-shirts flip flips and tanks.

Yachtsman is good, Shula's is great. The steaks are truly the best on property. Having said that, Shula's is hardly romantic and it's really quite loud and noisy if conventioneers are there. If you want quiet and romantic, I'd probably go to Yachtsman.

I haven't eaten at Yachtsman but ate at Shula's for the first time last week and all 4 of us agreed it was the best steak we have ever eaten (living in NY we have gone to some of the best steakhouses). The service was wonderful and everything was great (try the salad with tomato and gorgonzola, amazing). The salads and side are definitely more than enough for two! It was amazing and now a must do for us each trip!

I have only eaten at Shula's and LOVED it but if you're on the dining plan- I'd pick Yachtsman. Shula's is not on the plan and can run you well over $100 out of pocket... don't get me wrong- it was worth it though! The Yachtsman might be a 2 credit restuarant though. Anyone know?

Yes, Yachtsman is a 2TS restaurant. But I think it is worth it. YUMMY

Go with Shula's. Yachtsman had whip marks on the steak from the jockey. The worst meals we have ever had. I always give a place a second chance and when we went in April, I thought it has to better than the first time. Well it was but not much better. It's two strikes and your out in my book. Maine :firefight

Shulas is fantastic. We enjoyed it greatly and found the food quality and service much better than the standard Disney fare. Neither are inexpensive so for the $$$ I'd take Shulas every time.

It is a coin toss.

I agree. My family has been to both multiple times, and we have always enjoyed our steaks at both places. However, if your meal of choice is a salad, Shula's has my favorite all time salad. I forget the exact name, however, it has beefsteak tomatoes, lettuce, gorgonzola cheese, and a great dressing. Even my two daughters (9 &11) love the salad  I'd choose Shula's and you both should by happy.

Have a great dinner!

I've been to Shula's and DH has been to both (the lucky duck was at a convention near WDW and went to the yachtsman one night). He said that while both had really good food, the service at Yachtsman edged out Shulas.

I agree that Shula's has out of this world food (oh my gosh yummmmmyyyy---the potato skins were TDF, as was the steak and salad) but our service was a bit sketchy. After we were seated a table of 20 or so conventioners (who also happened to be high rollers) were seated next to us. Yes, they were loud, but worse, our waiter forgot about us cause he got very wrapped up in the other table. That was the damper on our meal- my DH finally said to the waiter, "I see you have a very busy table now; we can sit somewhere else if you're not going to be able to attend to us." Normally we are not snarky, but it was a good 15 minutes between getting just our drinks and being able to order. I don't expect that at a restaurant where we plan on spending over $100, KWIM? On the other hand, I would probably try it again; the food was THAT good!

I agree! I've never been to either, and never even heard of Shula's. I have an ADR for Yachtsman on my next trip. So I am extremely curious...

Keep 'em coming! This is like a 50/50 split!

I like YSH.... reasons?
1. Oscar is the best
2. Steak grilled over real OAK Wood Grille
3. Aged Beef
4. It's Disney
