We are staying at the Beach Club Villas this May. We have one night where my wife and I can go out without our 3 kids. She is a big steak lover, does not like fish. I could do either, but noticed Chilean sea bass on the menu at Flying Fish. Either would be okay with me but was hoping for some recommendations from people who have done both to see which one is preferable? Thanks!

Love Flying Fish and have not eaten at Yachtsman, but have read many rave reviews. My bias is you don't order a steak at a Seafood restaurant and don't order Seafood at a steak restaurant. They may do the other ok, but rarely is it as good as their specialty. If your wife really wants a steak, I would vote Yachtsman. We have enough very good steak houses around us in the midwest, that we skip most steaks when we are in Florida and go for the seafood.

If it's steak you're after, I can tell you that the one I had at Yachtsman a few months ago was delicious. I have not been to Flying Fish since the renovation but in general, the overall culinary quality is better there than at YS. The decor and ambiance at FF is also far more interesting IMO, with YS sort of underwhelming in that regard.

There are so many things to love at the Yachtsman besides the steak. The complementary bread basket by itself is awesome with onion rolls and roasted garlic. The service is outstanding, and I’m crazy for the truffle Mac & cheese. They will allow you to swap out any of the sides.

See, I felt the opposite. Like you, I thought the service was excellent (thank you CM Barbara!). The other dishes just did not impress. My wife ordered the lobster, and it was largely flavorless. Desert looked pretty (that large chocolate arch cake), but was unimpressive in taste.

Skip them both and do Shulas if you want steak, Bluezoo if you want seafood or Il Mulino if you want Italian at the Swan and Dolphin.

I had forgotten about Bluezoo and Shula's DisneyWishes14 and smcabee. We've never had the opportunity to go there but have always read great things. I think with those in the equation and it sounds like Flying Fish may not be the best choice figuring one of us is not into seafood and Bluezoo may not be the best option either for the same reasons. So now it is down to Shula's or Yachtsman. Thanks for all the help!

Flying Fish used to be my favorite restaurant on property. Now it's a complete miss. Shula's really is excellent, but if you're on the dining plan then Yachtsman is the way to go. I've never had a bad steak there.

Don't rule out bluezoo for steak lovers. They have a some excellent steaks, even though they focus on seafood. For me, bluezoo and il Mulino are the 2 best restaurants in the Epcot Resort area.
Shula's is a typical upscale steakhouse, very consistent and professional but there are hundreds of very similar places all over the country (including a quite a few named Shula's).
I like FF but their recent menus seem rather limited. Yachtsman in my experience suffers from the WDW curse of being inconsistent in terms of both food and service. For a fancy steak dinner in WDW it is not even in my top 5. However, I haven't been there in a few years, so maybe it has improved.

We were not as impressed with Yachtsman as I had hoped. We've had better steaks at Le Cellier and Narcoossee's. Based on our most recent trip, Il Mulino is now my favorite restaurant at WDW. While the atmosphere was a bit noisier than I'd prefer, the service and flavor were far superior to anything else we have tried in years. If you prefer steak to pasta, then I would recommend Shula's. We haven't tried it yet, but if it's even half the quality of Il Mulino, then it will beat Yachtsman hands down.

I can't say enough about Shula's and Bluezoo. I know neither restaurant was mentioned by the OP but the steak and service at Shula's is fantastic...and you'll pay for the quality as well.

They are both very good. Yachtsman is great if you can get an isolated table. Request one for your special occasion. We had a great meal after we were moved from a table of fourteen next to us. (Unfortunately, children were running around without adult supervision and they were loud). We love the steak at Yachtsman. I think we enjoy the Yachtsman more due to a larger selection on the menu than Flying Fish. However, if you're not on the dining plan... go to Shulas for the best steak ever( in a romantic setting) , or Blue Zoo for fabulous seafood.

Love flying Fish, not a fan of Yachtsmans, found the food band and the atmosphere lacking and a bit stuffy

Both are outstanding, but I prefer Flying Fish. For the record, the filet at Flying Fish is excellent:

Filet Mignon
Sea Salt-dusted served with your choice of Asparagus, Mushrooms, Celeriac Risotto, and Grand Mariner-Black Truffle Sauce or Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, Haricot Vert, and Sauce Foyot
