Hi. My ds had picked the Yachtsman for his 8th grade graduation dinner but we have found out that it will be closed for refurb, much to his disappointment.

Where can we get a good steak with nice atmospher and good sevice.
We have been to both Canada and Shulas. Which one would be better and is there someplace even better than that to go?

Thanks so much!

I absolutely LOVED my filet at California Grill. We will be there twice in August and I will be getting the same thing twice!! The filet at HBD is also very good.

hhhmmm....Didn't think of CG, and we have been there a couple of times before but I think of it more for fish and sushi than steak but I will ask my ds if that is a place he would want to go back to again.

What is HBD?

Thanks.

Flying Fish is nearby and people rave about the steak there. I'd pick Jiko though.

Thanks. We planned on going to Flying Fish for one of our dinners. Are they known for their steaks? We have been there before and it is quite busy and loud, we were looking for something more on the Yachtsman atmosphere.
Is Jiko like that? We have never been.
Thanks.

FF is really known for their fish (go figure) but a lot of people rave about the one steak they have on their menu. restaurant menus :disrocks:

Jiko is pretty quiet and is certainly a nice room. They've got a really good steak there.

Jiko is much quieter and has an excellent filet.

I wouldn't recommend California Grill for the steak. It is good but nothing like Yachtsman. The signature steak is a filet served with a BBQ sauce that some find overpowering, and the dish isn't really a showcase for the cut of meat the way it would be in a steakhouse. And of course the atmosphere there is much noisier/busier than Yachtsman as well.

It's been years, since we at at YSH, & I don't remember the atmosphere that much. As far as Jiko & FF, Jiko is definitely quieter, with a more laid back atmosphere.

HBD is Hollywood Brown Derby. My son's ex-gf ate the filet at HDB & FF on subsequent nights, & she preferred the filet at HBD.

I had a great steak at Artist Point in the WL. Atmosphere is wonderful and WL is a beautiful resort! The boat ride from MK is also pretty cool!

Perhaps Jiko may be on the list. FF is very loud and busy and not something we are looking for that night but we do plan on going there again in Aug/Sept.
The menu and pictures look good on wdwinfo.

Thanks. Although I like CG, I find it loud and busy but do enjoy it.
I would not make the trip there to look for steak though. I'll keep Jiko on the radar and see what anyone else has to say.

Thanks so much!

This is one I didn't think of and a place we haven't eaten at before.
Is it a signature restaurant?
I will go look at wdwinfo.

Anyone else...Jiko....Artist Point?

We like The Turf at Saratoga Springs. We like it better than Yachtsman and Le Cellier.

I have to go with Shula's. I know a lot of people like Hollywood Brown Derby, but we ate there a week or so before Christmas and in our party of six, three of the filets were inedible, even on the second attempt. Two were ordered medium amd one medium well and they came out on the rare side, rather tough, and stone cold. After sending them back they brought out new steaks and they were more on the raw side and tough. We couldn't get past the first bite. The other three meals in out party we okay, but barely okay. We are not difficult to please, either. I order my steaks medium, but am okay with rare to well done. These just didn't cut it with that flexibility. I've had good steaks at Jiko and Fulton's (yes, Fulton's), Narcoossee's, and Rose & Crown (when they have them) as well as other restaurants that are long closed. The Yachtsman Steakhouse was great during the early years, but started sliding the past 5-10 years.

We had an excellent filet at Hollywood Brown Derby a couple of weeks ago. I really liked the atmosphere (quiet, cool, low lighting), and the service was excellent! Attentive but not hovering:goodvibes I wonder if some of the not-so good reviews come at busier times....we were there at lunchtime in early feb, so maybe that makes a difference?? we had NO complaints whatsoever!!

My husband is very non-adventerous, so I liked that we could get basic your basic meat potatoes and salad. Everything was great!

Also....we stayed at AKL and the SMELL from Jiko was enough to make your mouth water! And it is a beautiful restaurant. I was afraid to try it bc it has some unique choices, but I think I will in the future!!

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these choices!! Have fun and Congrats to your son on his accomplishment:thumbsup2

Another vote for Artist Point:thumbsup2 We make eating there a must each time we visit the World. The dining experience/atmosphere is one not to miss.

Of those two, it's Shula's hands down. Outside of those two, I'd vote for Artist Point.

We have had excellent steaks at CG, Jiko, Artist Point and Flying Fish. Of those, the BEST was CG, with Jiko a close second. I would put Jiko at the top if they still served it with mac & cheese, but alas, they removed the mac & cheese and now do it with hominy grits, I believe.

As an honorable mention for Artist Point, while they do have an excellent filet, they ALSO offer buffalo steak, which, when prepared properly, is absolutely out-of-this-world. If you go there, make sure someone in your party tries it, so you can all have a taste (if your family does that kind of thing).

BTW, when will Yachtsman be down? We have an ADR for August 11. Thanks!

Thank you all very, very much for taking the time to help and explain your choices.

I told my dh and ds about Jiko and it seems like that will be the restaurant we will do in place of Yachsman. We have never been and always looking for something different.

We will be staying at the BWVs. Are there resort busses from BWVs to AK?
Or, would it be better to take the Friendship boat over to HS and then the bus from there? What about coming home? Do I take a bus from AK to BW?

Thanks!

No buses to AKL from BWV. But yes, you can take the boat to DHS (or walk there if you want...takes us 10-15 minutes with 2 little kids), and then hop onto the AKL. As far as getting back to BWV, you can do the same thing...bus from AKL to DHS, then the boat or walk to BWV. There is also the option of taking a bus to DTD first and walking around a little there, then taking a bus back to BWV from DTD.

Im in the same predicament as you, cant decide between Citrico's, Narccosee's, and Jiko. After reading the reviews here, im leaning towards Jiko myself!

For what its worth, Cali Grill has INCREDIBLE filets!!!! I asked for the bbq sauce on the side, boy am I glad i did. So much better without it. My son had the sauce on his steak and he loved it. We both agree it was the best steak we've ever had!
