Quick question.......Can I request a coffee pot in a regular hotel room at the Yacht Club? We are going to request a frig but were unsure of the availability of a coffee pot.
Thanks!

I was told it is best to request a coffee pot when checking in. They do have them on request and if they are not all being used they will send one up, no charge last time I asked. Refrigerators on the other hand are about $10.60 a day and is paid at the front desk of your Resort.

RobinLyn:)

We have requested coffee pots at CR and POR. At CR they said we supply two coffee set ups then you have to purchase your own coffee in the gift shop after that. At POR they said we would have to supply our own coffee from the get go.
I buy the $2.99 maxwell house coffee filter paks (10 per box) and take them with me. Otherwise WDW charges $1.38 per filter pak.

I assume Yaght club (a deluxe) will do the same as CR.

We requested a coffee pot at check in and had it in a few minutes. Bring your own coffee, filters and cups. We only recieved a coffee pot.

that thinks it's positively ridiculous the Disney charges EXTRA for things that should automatically be in their resort rooms....like a refrigerator and coffee maker, and even charging for the COFFEE to put in the coffee maker, come on!! We recently spent a couple nights at a Best Western in Traverse City and only paid $54.00 per night, the room had a refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker with regular AND decaf coffee, and even a VCR with the TV! The Drury Inn we stayed at in Frankenmuth even had complimentary sodas in the frig and a bag of popcorn in the microwave!!! It's ridiculous that Disney "nickels and dimes" their customers who pay BIG BUCKS to stay in their resorts!!!!!

You are so right. When the Yacht and Beach first opened, there was complimentary coffee in the lobby until at least 9 a.m. Then the coffee in the lobby was removed with coffee makers and a "fee" for the coffee. Then the coffee makers were removed and are now "by request only". As a frequent guest, we were invited to a manager's breakfast in order to discuss what we would like to see as frequent guests. I discussed this with Diana who was the res. manager at the time. The excuses, were that polling indicated that guests want coffee makers in the rooms. While that may have been true, it didn't mean that guests didn't want coffee in the lobby. Alas, guests ultimately end up with none of the above. These are among the reasons why the Yacht and Beach Club will remain 3 star hotels.

...it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to rate the YC/BC 3 star hotels just because you can't get a morning fix of java in your room. The last time I checked there were restaurants in the resort complex, which I would assume would have coffee.

Yes, I agree that the cost of staying at YC/BC is great, but rating a hotel involves more criteria then whether or not some coffee pots or refrigerators exist in your room.

While I agree that not everyone looks forward to their morning cup of coffee, just because you "can buy" a cup of coffee on property, doesn't mean that they are providing excellent service. Amenities are a big part of any rating that a hotel receives and hotels that provide "just the basics" are going to a minimal rating. If you are paying for a "deluxe" resort, it would be nice to receive "deluxe" service. I will be staying at the Yacht Club over Thanksgiving and I will keep you posted.

I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but just what does everyone consider "deluxe" service? Are we talking about concierge-like amenities? It wasn't my intention to imply that by offering coffee @ onsite restaurants that the resort was providing excellent service.

I understand that having the coffee makers and refrigerators are a perk (no pun intended), but the "deluxe" rating also comes from the atmosphere of the resort, along with location and accessibility to other attractions. Not to mention SAB, and nightly maid service. You get a local paper in the morning, delivered directly to you door. You have Disney Transportation (buses and boats) to other Disney attractions. You have express check-out and healthy-sized room service menu. I believe there is also valet parking.

I am just trying to figure out how many amenities there has to be before it is considered "deluxe"?

I have to put my two cents in here -- I agree with the other posters that it is outrageous how Disney gets people to pay big bucks for their resorts and doesn't even offer the basics, like a coffeemaker. We recently stayed at the Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando (over Labor Day weekend). This resort was absolutely beautiful. The room was fabulous and the bathroom was HUGE with a separate shower. We had a coffee maker (with coffee - every day). We were given a nice bottle of white wine when we checked in because I was a Loews First member (free on their website). Everything about this hotel was deluxe. Last year we stayed at the Beach Club. The room at the Beach Club in no way compares to the room at Portofino Bay. The Beach Club room was small (with double beds, I might add) and the bathroom was miniscule. The Beach Club resort was very nice and the location for Disney was great. However, I think Disney is going to have to rethink how their resorts compare to other hotels in Orlando. What is the attraction really? The "magic"?
To be honest I think the "magic" is getting old. In these times, we want bang for our buck.

Just my opinion.

We stayed at the CR last Saturday night and woke up to no newspaper. We have stayed before and got a newspaper but this time ours and everyone elses doorway was empty. Has anyone else noticed the absence?

I agree with Dawn that YC/BC should at LEAST have a coffee pot in their rooms, even if they don't offer free coffee packs with it. I want the coffee pot and the paper but if I had to choose it would surly be the coffee pot over the newspaper. We go on vacation to get away from all the stuff in the news, if even just for a short time. Besides if you really want some bad news, just turn on the TV. Personally I won't miss it but now it sounds like the newspaper delivery may be discontinued, what's next?

RobinLyn:rolleyes:

We got a coffee pot and complimentary coffee in our Tower Club Room at the Contemporary. They only come standard in the club & concierge rooms and the suites at the CR. I don't think there are ANY standard rooms at WDW that have coffee pots in the rooms (CSR may be an exception).

Newspaper delivery (for the hotels that offer it) was Mon-Sat - no newspaper delivery on Sundays.

This may have changed since Disney started providing the USA Today over the Orlando Sentinel (USA Today only publishes Mon-Fri).

I'll know for sure in just over a month. ;)

Just curious what the nightly rate for that Portofino Bay room was.

Newspaper was Mon-Fri when I was at the BWI over labor day.

Does anyone remember getting coffee at the MK entrance during early entry?? Had a CM attending a cart with small Mickey cups of coffee. AAHH in the day.....;)

FYI -- The rate at Portofino Bay was $180 (that was a poolview deluxe room). Could have had a Bayview room for $170 or a garden view for $155. All of these are Entertainment Rates.
