The Lauren/Sarah and Patty/Emily plots might seem campy and sensational for a realistic, character-driven soap like Y&R, but is it overkill? According to Scott Hamner (co-HW), the answer is no.
Hamner promises that all the fans will be rewarded for their patience very soon. "The payoff is quite astonishing. I know what's coming and I still get chills."
Tracey Bregman admits she was stunned when she was first told about the zany doppelganger story. "There was so much speculation with Kimberlin coming back that it threw me," laughs Bregman. "I was a little concerned how it was going to play out, but I was so thrilled to have the opportunity because playing double roles is something I've never done."
Meanwhile, Hamner isn't phased by the fact that Y&R fans have never heard of Sheila's crazy sister (Sarah) before now. "There are probably a number of things about Sheila that we still don't know," teases the writer.
Bregman believes the viewers will enjoy the creepy psychology of what's coming up with this story. "When it came to Sheila, Sarah had always been number two," explains Bregman. "Sarah was always the one who had to clean up the mess and take care of Sheila's children. Then Sarah lost her sister to Lauren, but for the first time, she's in the #1 position. She's drunk with power."
As it turns out, Sarah isn't as satisfied by making Lauren miserable as she thought she would be. This week, she decides she wants to take over Lauren's life completely. "Just spend her money and do what I want."
To accomplish this, Sarah recruits Daisy and Patty to murder Michael and Phyllis. "Sarah doesn't want to get her hands dirty," explains Bregman. However, by week's end, something happens which forces Sarah to step in.
