Anyone here do Yoga? I want to start, but I need guidance. We have an upstairs area at the office that is never used, it's perfectly peaceful during the day so I wanted to start using a portion of my lunch to go up there.

I've looked at a couple of the places around here that offer Yoga classes, but I don't think I'm up to going to a group function yet. When I was looking there were a lot of different class options so I'm not sure what I should do. Does anyone have a book or dvd to suggest? I can take my portable DVD player up there w/ me. I have a mat and one of the big exercise balls. :) Any help is great...

Thanks!!

My mother does Yoga and loves it. She even got my dad in to doing it. They both like it so much they built a Yoga studio in their house and go down to Mexico on Yoga retreats every year.

I do not know that much about it, but I can get you in touch with my mom if you want some good advice. You can PM me if nobody responds with some good information.

No, I don't do YOGA, but I would like to. I do look at the dvd's in the stores. There are soooo many to choose from.

It's really helpful to attend a class for proper posture and guidance. "Yoga is not a sport" and no one should worry about not fitting in with a class. Breathing is the most important part of the practice. All of your practice for postures is so you can sit properly to meditate.

Since yoga is so popular, try a 'gentle yoga' or 'beginner' class. I think it's worth it.

I do yoga and I love it! :)

I started with the PM Yoga dvd from Costco, its very relaxing but its still work.

I have been doing yoga for about 2 years now, and it is the greatest. You should never worry about going to a class, since there is no competition (even with yourself) in yoga, and there are always beginner classes to choose from almost everywhere you go. It is so relaxing and it really makes everything else disappear (as far as stress, worries, etc.) while you are doing it. As another poster said, it is important to go to a class so that you can be sure that you are posing correctly. Give it a try, you will be hooked.

I love yoga. I'm just starting up again. I have a dance background, so I felt familiar with the technique when I started. I do it at home, (I have two little ones so getting to a place is too hard) and I highly recommend Suzanne Deason, Yoga for Weight Loss.

She has four levels starting with very beginner. You work your way up. She really is a wonderful instructor, and if you have trouble with a pose, you can get an in depth explanation with a click of the dvd button. And then the dvd takes you back to where you left off.

Thank You SB!!!

OK, just plugged her into Netflix and got a few for weight loss by her...Is this recent? The 30 minute quick start?

I've seen the quick start just recently and I am not sure if that's a new one. The Yoga for Weight Loss is about five years old.

I was going to by the one you mentioned, but I wasn't sure how similar they were.

Before I got pregnant with my DD2, I bought a DVD called Yoga for Dummies, and I really liked it. I think they had beginner, intermediate, and advanced DVDs. I had the beginner one, and I really enjoyed it.
