Hi there. I was jumped on a few months ago because I voiced my opinion and it actually discouraged me from coming back. I re-evaluated the situation and thought better of letting people run me off. I decided to have fun at that point. The last time I checked this was a free country and whether you're a communist, liberal, conservative...whatever, you are very much allowed to say what you need to say. Don't let others run you off and "win." Some people feed on running others off and making them feel inferior and they feel superior. Don't let them do this to you. That's just my opinion....WHAT WE'RE ALL ENTITELED TO HAVE

I'm primarily a lurker to these boards, posting in spurts, but I noticed the cycle of debates/anger/hard feelings is all part of the life cycle of any posting forum. I used to be a huge poster on the Weight Watchers boards, but after 9/11, a bunch of people were really trying to politicize the event and I had to stop. Once the big event was "over", those people that were starting things went away and the board returned to normal. I predict the same thing will happen after the election...

I know exactly what you mean Cati. AT first it bothered me. So I did not post for a while. Some of the problem is the fact that one cannot hear the tone in someone's voice(pragmatics)it is not what you say but HOW you say it. The second part of the problem is that there are probably people out there who for them, this is their life! That in itself makes people cranky. I used to post on the Weight Watcher Boards too and once I posted the same thread on both. It was amazing how different the response was WW was positive and this one was down right nasty.

I had been away from WW for a long time and posted a question about the new diet plan the other day. It was simple, and information seeking (not an opinion). I got about 6 nasty replies such as, " go to a meeting" or " look it up" . In fact I was using the boards just as they were intended. That board too has all these stupid personal cryptic messages and it is monopolized by certain people .
I went to the WISH board here and they answered my question very nicely. The point is, and here I make a generalization, I think most boards are turning kind of nasty when mean spirited people come on board (no pun). YOu will find it anywhere. If you leave, you just let the "jerks" take over. That would not be good.

You should not take this stuff personally since no one really knows anyone else on here. In life you can look a a person and say,"consider the source." When you post on a board, you cannot do this. Some people have more than one name and I swear they anwer their own questions just so they will have supporters.

I have noticed a change here since the debate board wasshut down...It gave people a place to vent and now they all seem to come here...Just a thought

I can't agree with you more. My mother always taught me to never talk about politics or religion and I pretty much made it these past 30 years until I joined these boards to talk about Disney and it seems I've been roped into some nasty political debates and it makes me mad that on the DISboards of all places it seems like the majority of posts are political. Even the threads you open that aren't political turn that way. I feel the same way that you do.

Can someone explain to me why the debate board was shut down just so the same nasty threads can be posted on the Community board.

Don't let the petty name callers get you down. You have to not let it bother you. I have been called many things here, believe me! A few even told me it would be great if I died (nice, huh?). I just keep remembering such people who say these things are most likely miserable, have horrible lives and are full of hate and jealousy. Just keep your chin up and be glad you are not them!

As far as the DB goes, it was getting to be the same debates over and over again and was getting boring to me, but I can understand why some people want it back.

It's like when I asked what I thought was a non-controversial question concerning the cost of sending band kids to Disney. A couple of people had to get on my thread and try to turn it into an ugly debate. But, I just shrug my shoulders and let it drop.........the CB is too much fun to let a few opinionated-pushing people wreck it for others.

I don't "know" you, but I'm truley sorry that people have been so mean that you are leaving. I've only been lurking here for a few months, but when I see a post that is not nice I just skip it and read the next one. Unfortuneally their anr some not so nice people in this world that have nothing better then to start fights. I agree with what somebody else said, " THEIR JUST BEGGING FOR ATTENTION" Please don't let a few not nice people cause you to leave.

Cati I'm not all that familiar with your posts and I'm <i>not</i> directing this at you -- if people are name calling that's a violation and it should be reported-- and I hope you reconsider and stay, Cati. Report the people that called you names. It will make a better board for us all.

But the talk of the revival of the debate board -- Was there no contoversy on the CB even when the DB was still in existance? Political or not, if you (not specifically you, Cati, but everyone) posts on a controversial topic, I think you better be ready to take some heat.

I always get mad when people start getting hostile on threads about things like band trips, as someone mentioned, or weddings, or personal things. But if you enter into a discussion about religion or politics, I think you enter at your own risk! JMO -- and I hope you reconsider and stay, Cati. Report the people that called you names. It will make a better board for us all.
