We will be at the World during Christmas this year and wanted a tree for our place at BWV. I was wondering what others did about celebrating Christmas while at WDW re: live vs artificial, if a live tree, where to obtain one, ect.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Julie

Most people put up an artificial tree at WDW during xmas. I think a live tree would be a fire hazard.

Good point! When I spoke with member services couple months ago regarding obtaining a tree, the cm suggested calling the florist WDW uses. I assumed it would be too pricey for me.

We won't be there Christmas week, but we will be the week before. During the semi-annual clearance at TDS, I picked up the Toy Story Christmas tree for our room at the Pop. I will sort though our decorations for a couple of strings of lights and we will be all set. I can't wait.

Now, for those of you that want to get a tree, why not just go to Walmart? It's close enough by and you know they have trees. Mickey

We did this for our stay at the WL this past Christmas. I've got some pictures I can look up and see if I can learn to post them here.

We got the 4ft tree. It's a very good quality fiber optic and came decorated with tons of different Disney ornaments/ribbons and bows.

Yes, I think they're pricey. This tree cost $219 before a 10% discount with the Disney Club card.

Since we flew in, we didn't have the space to pack a tree and ornaments. Also, it was so nice to have a professionally decorated tree delivered to the room and we have the most beautiful reminder of our trip to use every Christmas!:)

There are of course cheaper ways to do it, but we loved the tree and thought it was worth the price.

After WDW, we are going on a non DCL cruise where we will be there for Christmas. I plan on packing a small (table top)Christmas tree with the tiny ornaments. Now that you mention it, I may put it up in the room at WDW as well, I figure I can pack it with lights & ornaments on it in the box. It may take a little extra room in my suitecase, but I feel it will be well worth it.

Now I just have to figure out how I am going to do the stockings.

Peachgirl,

Was the tree easy to disassemble and repackage for delivery back home? Also, did you go thru the main Disney number or is it actually a separate business? I would love to see the pics if you find them! Love the idea of the tree being decorated Disney style!

It's all one piece and does not come apart. They deliver it to your room in the box. I'm not sure, but I think the delivery charge was $7.50. You just save the box it came in and take it to guest services when you're ready to send it home.

Now for the downside....

We loved the tree and I'd do it again, BUT I was very disappointed in the shipping done by WL. They had told me they would "prepare" the package for shippping. I took that to mean they would pack it properly. So, I just took the tree sitting in the box down to guest services and filled out the paperwork and left it. I should have checked into the shipping better. They did no preparation at all. They basically put a label on it and sent it UPS.

The box got crushed in shipping and several of the ornaments were broken. To WL's credit, they reimbursed us for the damaged ornaments, but it was a hassle taking care of it. UPS wanted to refund the entire tree and take the tree (that WAS NOT going to happen;) ) and so we just dealt with the WL.

When I first called WL about the damage, they said that they don't have packing materials available to them, so be aware this is something you'll need to discuss with the florist or the resort you're staying at. Had I known this is how they were going to ship it, I'm sure I could have talked to someone that would have figured out a way to do it properly. I'm quite positive that in all of WDW they have some shipping material. ;)

It is a separate number to order the tree. The number is 407-827-3505. As I understand it, they area separate business, but affiliated with WDW. They have a website as well, but it's not very informative as far as the trees are concerned.

I'm working on those pics!
:D

Sorry, meant to include that website link...

Peachgirl,

Thanks so much for all the great info! I will definitely check BWV regarding their packaging procedures.

We bought a cheap after christmas artificial tree for this year at BWV.

Disney will sell you one (what a shock Disney sells stuff!) decorated but they cost a bundle, on the other hand you get a bunch of decorations and don't have to do any work.

See ya at Christmas!

We stayed at the YC Christmas 2002. We brought lights for the balcony (left them, and the extension cord for the next occupants we left on the 28th!) A lot of balconies were decorated. I brought a flat, wooden light up (about 24 inches high) table top tree from current ( and my DH bought me the spinning tinkerbelle (my fav character) for me as a gift. On Christmas morning there were stockings filled with "Magic Ball" chocolates. FOR EVERYONE!! It was SUCH a SPECIAL Christmas!
