Do the moderate resorts get decked out for Christmas, or do they just decorate the deluxe resorts? We're going in June of this year, but I'm already working on a scheme to go December 2004.

I don't know the answer to that question myself, but I am also curious about it. Also if they do have decorations up, do you know when they take them down? Do they stay until the New Year?

It's my understanding that they decorate each resort at Christmas (I haven't seen them all personally;) ). I know that All Star Music this Christmas was decorated. The decorations match the theme of the resort, so at ASMu, the ribbon on the wreath was a piano keyboard, and many of the ornaments were musical notes, treble clefs, etc. It was really neat to see how they tied it all in to the resort theme.

We looked at the Grand Floridian on that trip as well. Their decorations were victorian, to go with the hotel theme. The tree is spectacular - three or four stories tall with ornaments 2 or three feet tall, and a gingerbread house taller than the people standing around it. Obviously, ASMu didn't have anything on that scale, because they don't have the same type of lobby. But the tree and wreath that they had at ASMu with it's themeing was really nice, in our opinion, and we felt it was really festive.

We loved our December trip - after we got back my husband confessed that he thought something to the effect of "Why would someone plan the timing of their trip around the holiday season." (That wasn't what dictated our timing - the holiday was happy coincidence, but he knew that some people do). But after going, he has said more than once how wonderful it was to see all the parks at that special time.

BTW - crowd levels were great in early December.

Yes, the moderates do decorate for Christmas. They usually have some activity for Christmas Eve (like decorating cookies) and Santa usually leaves something on the door for Christmas morning. The landscaping and the lobby are where you will find the majority of the decorations. I think they even have a gingerbread display. CSR in particular does a wonderful job with the decorations.

One difference is that people do not spend as much time in the check-in/lobby area as they do at a deluxe where you often walk through the lobby to leave. At a moderate you just walk out of your building.

At least some of the decorations generally stay up through the first week of January. Some of the decorations may come down prior to NYE. For example, OKW stays pretty much decorated until after NYE but they usually take the wreaths that are on the bridge down and the Santa hats off the pool dolphins prior to NYE. Similar small changes may occur at the other resorts.

I can't say for the other resorts but I stayed there Nov 2001 after they had decorated for Christmas and they had a large tree upon entering then there were wreathes in the window along the hallway that leads from the lobby down to the fast food court. Very pretty decorations :D

Christmas at Disney is amazing, they do a wonderful job. Ok, so I go before the Christmas week crowds but December at Disney is truly wonderful. Even a soggy MVMCP was fun :D We just did December this past year and it was my hubby's first time seeing Disney done up for Christmas, it was very special.

Hi Aunt K

Yes the moderates get decorated for christmas. I was at the Caribbean Beach Resort in Christmas 2000 and they decorated the resort.

Yes they do decorate the resorts at Christmas. We have stayed numerous times at Christmas at CBR. It is done with a Caribbean flair. On Christmas Eve they have a party at Old Port Royale with Santa, the characters, music. You can decorate cookies. It is great.

WDW is a great place to celebrate Christmas.

PamOKW,
Thanks for the info! Looks like we'll be there for New Years! Does anyone know what kind of special activities/decor they have for New Years at the Moderate Resorts?

Thanks,
Krispe:smooth:
