XM suspends Opie and Anthony for 30 days

What's next, HBO cancelling The Soprano's (I know, they will be gone soon anyway) because of the violence!!

People need to get thicker skin. I am sure we will now all need to hear an apology-- and next they may need some kind of rehab for their remarks-- *puke*

OK...I am a Stern listener, just wanted to say that up front.

Now O&A were replaced like 2 weeks agoish on "FREE FM RADIO", here in Dallas...why I don't know.

I did listen from time to time and the "punching in the face" was a frequent talk from the comedian, Jim Norton, who I like kinda, except for his violence against women comedy.

I admit they are hard to listen to. They really hate women.

Should they have been thrown off for the bit...nope. XM sucks.

O&A aren't being fired from CBS because the first part of the show is broadcast on CBS and XM simultaneously, and it is censored. What they are suspended over happened on the XM broadcast (the last 2 hours of the show) which is not censored. Imus was fired because he was on censored FM radio.

Looking deeper into the issue XM has said that they suspended them not because of what they said but because of comments on Monday's brodcast that made XM feel that O&A were not taking the issue seriously enough.

I think that had something to do with them taking a 2 week vacation, and some of the FM stations that broadcast the show didn't like it. When O&A take breaks, XM plays "Worst Of O&A" which is clips from various shows put together. Basically, it is replays of their better bits. The FM stations didn't want to play those and were upset. Mainly it was because the 2 week vacation happened during sweeps week.

The back story to the vacation is that Anthony had booked the vacation 2 years ago. He took a large part of his family on a cruise. When they signed on with CBS, Anthony let CBS know that he was taking the vacation. O&A have it in their contract that if one is not on the show the other isn't either. One doesn't go on air without the other.

Channel 150 is nothing but uncensored comedy. Is it going to be censored now? There is an alternative censored comedy channel on 151.

I enjoy E! on channel 162, and I love The Answer Witch (put a B for the W). She curses, and it is funny. Her name is a curse word!

We bought our units and subscribed to XM from the get go. We liked that it was uncensored radio (like some cable channels - HBO has all of our favorite shows). The uncensored aspect is what made alot of people subscribe. If XM and Sirius are going to be censored, why pay for it? Anyone who has a regular radio can listen to free AM & FM radio.

it is really getting out of hand on both satellite and terrestrial radio. Since Imus, I've known of more than 1 small market talent or producer that has been let go for incidents that a year ago wouldn't even shown up on anyone's radar.

Also radio doesn't do sweeps weeks like TV does. Their ratings come in quarterly books with the fall and spring books being most important. They average the ratings over a 3 month period. While I can see them being slightly annoyed with a 2 week break over a 3 month period I don't see that has the overwriting factor in a 'firing' decision. If they had good ratings and revenue, a vacation during the spring book wouldn't be the kiss of death.

Not all about O&A, but did you see this about "shock jocks" getting suspended for prank calling a Chinese restaurant?

The Chinese Community was OUTRAGED (by "second grade humor")and called for their suspension. They were indeed suspended for saying things like they wanted to order "shrimp flied lice".

I truly think censorship is getting out of control.

BTW--O&A are mentioned at the end of this piece.

I can guarantee that the MAJORITY of people are not offended by a lot. It is always the "squeaky wheel" that has to ruin it for the rest of us.

If they would stop pandering to the "thin skinned" maybe some of this nonsense would end!

My husband was planning to call XM and cancel our subscriptions. The O&A and Ron/Fez message boards had posters reporting that they had waited on hold for up to 2 hrs to cancel. There is a big movement among the O&A listeners to cancel their subscriptions. Posters who had the time to wait for their call to be answered were reporting being given anywhere from 1 to 3 months of free service. One person destroyed their XM Inno with a bench grinder, and posted the video of it on youtube.

My husband still says he is cancelling our service if O&A are fired. He's bothered enough by the suspension. I'll miss listening to Ron & Fez everyday, but XM has got to know that this is unacceptable to their subscribers who pay to have uncensored radio.

It is an agenda, pure and simple. You know Stern was talking about it long ago.

I like O&A ok, but Jim Norton is who I tune in for. When Patrice is there, I like him too, but Jim is my fav. Stalker Patty is my fav personality so I listen alot to see if she is going to pop in the studio.

I have to admit that when they first came to XM, and the rates increased I was dead set against listening to them. Dh turned them on one day while we were on a long drive, and I was hooked after that.

We have a Sirius in our van (it came equipped), but it doesn't work half the time. Dh likes listening to Howard. We had a free 12 month subscription that came with the van, but we didn't renew it because the receiver doesn't work half the time. The other day I accidentally hit the button and there was full programming on the Sirius. Our free 12 month trial ended about a year ago.

Censoring satellite radio is going to put it under. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the FCC has to approve the merger of the Sirius and XM. That's how I'm undersanding it.

I am sure and that will be the end of it. Meanwhile the porn industry can be a multi-billion dollar thing....but simple citizens cannot listen to their own brand of "comedy".
