We're long-time Comcast customers and other than increasing prices and maybe 2 or 3 losses of service for a few hours over the course of many years, we have no issues really. Verizon Fios has been wooing our neighbors for the past 2 years or so but I've stuck w/ Comcast knowing that once the 2 year Verizon contract is up, I'll end up paying probably the same thing I'm paying now @ Comcast.

Anyhow, Verizon showed up again Thurs. night and made me an offer that seemed to good to be true.... but I'm not totally sold. $300 Visa gift card after 3 months on the new Verizon plan.... a 2 year contract with a savings of approx. $25 a month over Comcast. Sounds like a great deal.... BUT.... I'm just overwhelmed w/ how many contacts I'll have to change my updated email with... not just online places, but my kids' schools, doctor's offices, etc., etc.... not to mention that once the 2 years is up, I know the price will jump.

So..... if anyone has switched from Comcast to Verizon, did you like one over the other? I have less than a week to change my mind if I opt to not go through with the installation.... I'm really undecided right now. I would like to stick with Comcast, but if enough people tell me Verizon is better, I may reconsider.... :confused3:confused3

Thanks in advance for your input! :)

I don't know anything about comcast but i do have FIOS. I like it. It only goes down once a year tops but the price does go up every year. I started at $29.99 and am up to $54.99... Not too happy with the price but it is at least $10 less then Comcast (i have internet only, a package deal is even more competitive). The only issue is, they disconnect the copper lines going to your house so once you change over you can no longer go back to using DSL. You just have to decide if you could ever go back to DSL... I have 15/5mb service which is the slowest service you can get. You can get up to 50mb service but it is super expensive. FIOS has not data limits, so it is truly unlimited but if you check with comcast they do have a data limit. Now it is relatively high (200-300gigs per month) but it may make a difference in your decision.

Jealous

Fios won't come to me neighborhood. Relatives out of my little town changed. I've only heard great things about Fios.

I'd change. You may need to play the game again in 2 years to get a better price at renewal.

I can't speak for comcast but I do have FIOS and I have had no issues with it. After 2 years, if the price goes up then I may consider switching to comcast.

Don't do it. We had a horrible experience with Fios. We love our xfinity. Customer Service is wonderful and the channels and on demand content is way better than Fios.

Fios here
i kept my optonline email, still worksw ith outlook
got a gmail account and changing everything over

We also had plenty of warning that FIOS was coming. We were not happy with the cost of Comcast or the frequent outages and slow speed. I set up a gmail address and took my time converting all contacts to using that. When we got Verizon FIOS, we took the triple play deal which gave us more services with our landline such as unlimited long distance and backup voice mail if commercial power is out. We have never had an outage, it is fast, and when our initial contract period was up, we asked for another deal and were given more services for the same price.

I work at home and reliable Internet is a must. Comcast did not give me that. Verizon does.

Love love love Verizon Fios! It is soooo much better and more reliable than Comcast. Regardless of price, I'd never go back to Comcast.

I loved FIOS. Comcast offered us a great deal, so we recently switched but I'll go back to Fios the minute this contract is up. The $300 GC is awesome. I'd definitely do it. You'll be happy with it. And if their price goes up after the 2 years, then go back to comcast (or threaten to - they will probably price match to keep you.)

At our old house, we had multiple service interruptions with Comcast. We changed to Fios.

And we loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then we moved where our only choice in Comcast. Boo... Still having issues.

I'd switch for sure. I am saving a boatload with fios over comcast. I have a no contract but price locked deal. I figure they'll always run specials and I can jump in on one.

Dredging up an old post to get up to date opinions. We have Xfinity but are moving to a house with Fios in place so considering changing.

The only thing I think I might miss about Xfinity is the TV shows on demand making it unnecessary to pay for a DVR. Does Fios have anything like that?

We have FiOS and there are some issues here and there but we are so much happier with it than our old provider. When my first 2 years was up I called them to re-new but mentioned that Cablevision was sending me info on a great deal they had so Verizon went through and found some discounts. I pay less now than I did the first 2 years :)

Ha-ha, answered the OP but didnt see this was an old post.

Yes, FiOS has tons of free on demand TV shows and movies. We rarely rent anything.

Oh thank you that makes my decision a LOT easier!

You wouldn't think it would be too much to want to keep your cable/internet bill under $100 a month. Right now with Comcast we are at $150 and don't even get all of the channels we would like, no DVR, etc. Its just ridiculous.

I don't know if it's important to anyone, but FiOS, by virtue of 21st century technology, is said to deliver a better overall viewing/internet experience.

Comcast/Xfinity, and cable in general - all lines to (and inside) the house are coaxial cable. The phone relies on cable service to remain operational.

FiOS - uses fiber optics all the way to the box mounted on the outside of your house. The telephone service is set-up seperately from TV/internet, and is the same "plain old telephone service" (POTS) you've come to know over your lifetime.

As for me, I live in Mid-America, and use AT&T U-verse, which is somewhat similar to Verizon FiOS -- 5 years in and never an outage...

We have no option for fios or anything like that but I would love to switch if we had the option.

Switch your email now to a free gmail account that you can use no matter who your provider is.

I have a yahoo email account that I have had since college and just last year added a gmail account. I use gmail for personal stuff and my yahoo account for craigslist and for businesses.

Verizon FiOS now uses digital voice in certain areas, so not all customers will have the plain old telephone service anymore. We didnt when we first got FiOS but when I renewed my contract I was switched to it.

We have no need for a home phone, but the package with the phone is $10 a month cheaper than the same package without a phone. :confused3

I think its because its a package deal so if you bundle your phone, TV, and internet its cheaper than not. We still need our landline so it works great for us.
