Anyone else frustrated with paying excessive exchange rates over the past month? It's the highest I have seen in a long time and our final payment is due by the 25th..

I don't mind paying a few hundred however I'm well over $500 now.. :(

Its still way below when the dollar was 72cents. Also set up a US dollar account and when the dollar is up, put some in.

Lets' not complain....don't forget when the exchange rate was 40% or more.

Yes, our first trip to WDW was in 2007 (so not THAT long ago) and I believe the dollar was around 68 cents u.s.

I'm still quite happy with 89 cents :thumbsup2

I'm annoyed with myself because I meant to move some money a couple of months ago, when the exchange rate was up around 94 cents. I didn't get around to it then, and pretty soon I'm not going to have a choice.

My husband and I went on our honeymoon in Costa Rica in 2002, where most tourist related transactions happen in US dollars. The Canadian dollar was around $0.63 US, very near its all-time low (which was .6202 on Jan 18/02, according to the BOC). Ouch!

I agree with you.. it's a tough pill to swallow when making a lump sum payment. It definitely could be worse, and I hope it won't drop further, but it stings a little. I keep itemizing my budget for this trip and forgetting that I have to add exchange to each of those line items. That makes the super deals I've found not so super.:rolleyes1

I would expect it will continue to drop at least somewhat. I work for two financial planners, and one of my bosses asked yesterday if I had purchased all my US money for our May trip yet. When I told him no, he said he'd do so ASAP if he were me, because it looks like the loonie will continue to decline in value for a little while yet.

This is a couple of weeks old, but still fairly relevant:

The good news for us? DH works for an auto parts manufacturer. When our Canadian dollar is low, their profitability increases. So while its bad news for our vacation budget, its positive news for his job security.

I'm not happy with them at all. I bought $550 US yesterday and it cost $621 Canadian. The rate was 1.13.
