X Box question?

DD is asking for an X Box for birthday this year. I know nothing about them. I need opinions. Help. Should I consider this for a 10th birthday present?

We have one in the house and my 8year old sis loves it. She has a few games for it, but she mostly uses it to play cds. But if she the kind of kid who has to have new stuff when it comes out, I would wait b/c their making a new x-box that is comming out at x-mas (I think). There are good games for kids rated everyone, but most of them are rated teen or mature

As the other poster said, though, just wait. There is a new version of X-Box getting ready to come out (I think it is called X-Box 360).

You might see about getting a Playstation 2 instead. My DSs have both, and there are so many more games for the PS2 available. Some of the game companies will make a game only for one system, but most of the big games come out for both the XBox and PS2. If you'll be buying used games from places like Gamestop, they'll most likely have more PS2 games for sale. Another tip: you can go to Gamestop and buy a used XBox of PS2 as well, if a new unit isn't in the budget. I'll ask my DSs when they wake up this morning if they think the XBox is good for a child that age. Another note: I wish that I had limited the time that my DSs were allowed to play their games each day. I've completely lost control of that issue. If school grades are an issue, make it so that videogame time is a reward for getting the homework done, etc. I know I'll have to be the enforcer when school starts again in a few weeks!

Yes....

But as a 40yo SAHM I have an XBOX, PS2 & Gamecube.

Word of caution::::

They are upgrading XBOX & PS2. I would get the new version.

We got the PS2 a few years back because of the games. We looked around in walmart, game time etc. to see just which unit had more games that the girls would play (and their father too)...and went with PS2. The benefit of PS2 is that it plays PS1 games as well, so we were able to buy the cheaper PS1 games for awhile and play them on PS2.....and it plays DVD's not sure if they all do that?

We have XBox and PS2. There are a lot more games availible for PS2, but the kids prefer the XBox. One thing with PS2 is that you need memory cards to save games, where you don't with XBox, which saves money! They both can be used to play DVD's.
