Wyndham Palace Resort-Downtown Disney

Can anyone give some insight on this hotel? The good and the bad.

The good is the spa and Arthur's 21. IMO the best restaurant in the area and with a fabulous view. The location is great and the hotel feels like a good hotel should....a cut above the normal hotel dross.

The bad....the price of rooms.

If I was visiting Orlando and had to stay in a hotel, it would be a tough choice between Wyndham and Celebration.

We stayed at the Wyndham Palace DTD last week for one night and were glad to be leaving in the morning. I had heard so many great things about this hotel I was really looking forward to it.

When we got to our room the floor was all wet in front of the sink. When we looked closer at it, there was all kind of black and white molds growing along the baseboards an up the wall. I went to the front desk to explain the situation and was told "We are extremely busy and you are luck to even have a room for one night". The gentleman then explained he would inform housekeeping. We never heard or seen housekeeping but covered the floor with all the towels in the room.

My other complaints are around the room location and I know someone needs to be in these rooms. In front of the elevator so we heard all the party goers coming in at all times of the night. Also at 2:30 am the paper delivery person decided to hold the elevator by blocking the door with a bundle of papers, which caused the elevator alram to ring. Being in front of the elevator, this sounded like the hotel fire alarm system and woke us all. In the morning we all agreed we had very little sleep.

When checking out the desk clerk asked me how our stay was. Not wanting to get into it I just replied "disappointing". Her response was "That's too bad" with no further enquiry.

Needless to say our one night at this hotel was very disappointing.

The Wyndham Resort in DTD runs a lot of specials on their website -- you can often book a room directly through their website for $90 or so a night. Also, it seems to show up on Priceline a lot for about $60-65 a night -- I'll be there December 11-13th and I paid $60 a night through Priceline.

Now I am a little worried, though, based on the above post -- plus, with a Priceline reservation, I don't imaginine the staff will try too hard to find us a non-moldy room. But I figure we'll hardly be in the room at all, right? And I always bring my noise-making machine when I go to hotels so hopefully the sound of the waves will mask the sounds of any revelry in the halls.

My family stayed at Wyndham Palace for 1 night last week after we couldn't get an add'l night at The Swan(sold out). I got it on Priceline for $57 plus tax & fees. I would not want to pay any more than that to stay there. We didn't use the pool, transportation, or eat in any of the restaurants so I couldn't comment on those but the hallways and room seemed rundown and not the cleanest either. They also charge an $8 a day resort fee. I didn't see any mold and we didn't have any trouble with noise. Wyndham usually has very good web rates within 2 weeks of a stay.

Wyndham screwed up our reservations so after many many many calls, they gave up an upgrade to the presidential level. By stayed on this level we needed a key to access the floor, which proved very inconvienent for a family and we were right under the bar and were kept up all nightby thumping music. The service was passible but not good. Transportation was aweful! when we arrived our room was not maid up, though they told us it was ready. Brunch was bad. The toilet next door kep running allnight and we were called in the middle of the night asking if it was ours.

We will never ever ever stay there again and I cant urge you enough not to stay there. IVe also heard the summerfield Suites LBV are bad.

Stay with Disney. This trip convinved us to buy into the Disney Vacation Club.

Just got back, stayed there last week and were quite disappointed.

We paid 73 dollars with priceline and then another 8 dollar resort fee. I feel we got exactly what we paid for. We have gotten lots of awesome 4* and resort hotels through priceline and this one was by far the worst...

The Bad-
Very noisy. I heare people coming and going all night. We didn't stay in the towers, but in an adjacent building, so maybe this is why??

Bathroom-Tiny and poorly decorated. It was in like 5 different themes at once. I totally didn't get it. And the floor was badly stained in front of the sink. It was poorly painted and the wallpaper didn't meet. And the vent looked like it had NEVER been cleaned. All of this would have been acceptable in a 2 or 3 star hotel, but it was not 4* quality in my opinion. I have never stayed in other downtown disney hotels, so maybe this is common fare.

Room-small and dark. Stains on comforter, but hey, it was dark so they were hard to see. The room was very tiny but did have 2 queens.

The good-
Bed- very comfortable. Nice soft sheets.

Pool-the kids had lots of fun and the pool area was adequate. Nothing fancy, but clean and not crowded.

Location-VERY close to downtown disney.

Staff-very nice and helpful.


OVERALL-
It looked rather small and worn to be called a 4*. That is our biggest complaint. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again for the price we paid, but it is definitely not the quality of most 4*s. I would much rather stay at the Hyatt or MOWC and drive a little bit.

We were thrilled to be upgraded to a suite in the back area when we stayed on a priceline rate - Late arrival. Life seemed grand until the mouse ran into the room from the hall!!! Otherwise, everything was nice for $57 a night. PS - the bellman screamed louder than the kids!

I just returned from a Priceline stay there. I was in the main building and my room was fine. Give me a few days and I will post photos. (I had a computer melt down and am using a loner which means I can't post photos right now.)

The Wyndam is in the process of re-doing the halls so some of them are older and darker. The one I stayed in this time had been redone and was fine.

I have only stayed in the main buldings and my rooms have always been very large. As for hall noise I generally find it quiter then Disney hotels since it has more business travelers and fewer families with children racing up and down the halls.

The DTD hotels as a general rule are around 15 to 20 years old. As a result, some of them have some older design features. My bathroom was smaller then your aveage 4 star for example. However, there was not visable mold. The toliet did run constantly so I called maintenance and they fixed it. I also received a follow-up call to ensure that it was fixed to my satisfaction. (I always wonder if the last guest failed to notice or it just broke! LOL!)

I have never had a bad stay there and for the priceline rates I don't think you can beat it. (I am a DVC member, but I find paying $60 a night for the small All Star rooms to be a rip-off)

Our room at the Wyndham was smaller than our room at POR. Sounds like it depends on where you are put. It had a nice deck though.

I think some rooms are larger then others and to be honest I don't recall how big the rooms are at POR. Also as I said I have never stayed anyplace but the main building which could make a difference. However, I KNOW they are bigger then the All Stars at both POR and the Wyndam.

We just got back from a 5 night stay there at $62/night (priceline). While I probably won't go back, I think it was worth the money- but not more. I missed being at a true Disney Hotel.
Our first 2 nights were spent on the 24th floor (with a view)- but after calling on the second morning and asking to be moved due to the VERY loud family in the room next to us (screaming Mommy at kids at 0600, then the next day it was a full-blown Mom/Dad fight at 0700)(and they weren't checking out anytime soon)- they very kindly moved us to the 26th floor (Presidential level) in a "evergreen" room (I requested nonsmoking). I never could figure out what exactly was so special about "presidential level" and why we needed special keys- it seemed exactly the same as the room and amenities on the other floor! No problems with Mold. Room was clean. Sink area was kind of small. No complaints here- the staff was polite and helpful (the morning we called to get regular coffee packet for the coffee maker in the room because we hadn't been left one- and were told that they were out of them - they promptly sent up a free carafe of coffee from room service (not entirely free- since I tipped him)). All-in-all, I think if you get a priceline deal then it's okay...Jill
