Wyndham Palace Resort and Spa

Kirst,

Did they put you in the honeymoon suite? If so, how was it?

Lori

I stayed at the Wyndham a few years ago through Priceline. I thought the grounds of the hotel were beautiful - it would be a lovely setting for a wedding. I loved the location and proximity to DD. The hotel transportation to the parks was pretty good. My room was a bit of a disapointment - not up to a 4 star. But an ok 3 star - I had the feeling I was getting a "priceline" room. I'm sure they would put guests booked on wedding packages in their nicest rooms so I really wouldn't worry about it. Congratulations on getting married!

I have stayed there several times on PL. I find it to be very nice. Like all of the DTD hotels it is several years old so the bathrooms are not as big as newer hotels and tend to show the age more then the rest of the hotel.

Usually I get a kingsize bed room (think I had a double once) and several times have gotten great views of DTD.

My only complaint is that they just don't staff the front desk well so there will be a line to check in. They do LOTS of conventions and it is a HUGE hotel so they have lots of guests but never more then two or maybe three staff members at check in.

Lori,

They didn't put us in the honeymoon suite I think we just had a standard room but it was lovely. I have sent you a private e-mail with all the details of the wedding, I hope you get it. If not give me a shout and I'll try again.

Brambletiger,

If you dont mind, I would love to hear what you think of the Wyndham when you return from your visit next month.

Have a wonderful trip!!!!!!!

While I haven't stayed in the hotel I have regularly used the Outback restaurant in the hotel and I thought the food and service were first class. I would agree it's not a cheap restaurant, but the price reflected the standard IMHO. IF you can get a copy of the entertainment book they usually have "buy one get one free" coupons for the restaurants in this hotel. It more than pays for the book just eating at one of these.

I would also say that while reviews do serve a useful purpose, statistically, it is far more likely that an unhappy guest will post a bad review than a satisfied/happy guest will post a good one. One should always remember that fact when considering how much weight to place on those reviews.

The location is excellent, particularly if it's two adults who are likely to want to visit DTD and PI regularly (and not have to drive afterwards :drinking1 ) although I must admit that if the cost is close I would probably prefer to stay at a lower star WDW hotel as opposed to an off site higher rated one. If you don't have a car, then transportation might be an issue to you. If you have a car, then I'd suggest you use that when going to the parks etc.

It could well be that through Virgin you're paying top $ for the hotel. How much something costs is reflected in the level of service we expect. If you're paying $50 for a hotel you might say it's an excellent hotel, pay $100 for the same hotel you might say it was OK but was a little short of what you thought it should be, pay $200 and you may say it was rubbish. Same hotel, same level of service, very different "reviews" all based on expectations.

I won this resort on Pline for a stay in Nov. 2003 ($70 or $72 a night). Upon checkin I had requested a king room and the clerk gave me a handicapped room (I'm not handicapped) but it turned out to be wonderful. The room is #586 in the main building (5th floor, no view, view overlooks front drivein area). However the room is a mini suite with large bathroom/shower. Room was in good condition, no stains, no mold, no smell. IMO the hotel was very nice. The grounds were kept up, there were several places to eat (no more expensive than what is on Disney property) and various places to hang out as well. There is a nice quiet courtyard by the workout area which has several workout machines. There are 2 pools, large hot tub, pool bar, gazebo and covered walking area, tennis courts shared with Grovesnor resort and small kids play area and kids pool. There is a short cut to DTD in that you walk out through the main bldg over the bridge to pool area, through the pool area where you'll find a gate next to the street, 100 feet across the street is the entrance to DTD and the Disney bus stop. Very convenient to use. I've heard a few complaints but mostly from people who were put in the older rooms on property (I thought at one time they were redoing some of these bldgs or at least one was closed when I was there). I did enjoy my room and the pools and spa and had room service (typical fare with over average cost). I enjoyed my stay and enjoyed the fact that I was a very brief walk across the street from DTD.

PeterParnes,

I was wondering if you've returned from the Wyndham yet.

Lori

I can't believe we are leaving in 4 days!!! But we still havent received are park tickets :confused3 stupid travel agents! Anyway i'll do a trip report when I get back. Mickey magic here I come! :Pinkbounc

I stayed at the Wyndham Palace in 2002 with my 2 kids. We had a great time. DTD is right across the street. I got a GREAT rate. The transportation to the Disney parks were punctual and convenient. The restaurant was pricey but so are all the restaurants so it came as no surprise.

I've read several bad reviews but I honestly cannot understand - not my experience at all.

I am going back in March 2005. I've already called a couple of times to verify transportation and room amenities. (Last time I drove in but I'm flying this time and do not want to rent a car since we will spend all of our time at the park).

I hope your experience is as nice as ours was.

Sarah,

3 more days! I am sooooo excited for you!!!!!! Have a great time!!!!!!

Lori

Hate to say it, but my brother-in-law just returned and said he would never go back. Too many details to list but I would find someplace else.

Have a wonderful trip! As another poster mentioned, I don't understand the negative reviews of the Wyndham. It's a nice hotel, just unreasonably pricey at rack rate. Write a review when you get back and let us know what you thought about the Wyndham.

We have stayed at this hotel 3 different times. Always had good service, the staff is friendly. There is a car rental on property,as many have mentioned it's a 5 minute walk to DTD. This coming December we are going back. We got a suite with breakfast for 3 included for $159.00 a night. Now I know those of you who use price line getting beter deals, but not for a suite and not with breakfast included. Thats why we keep going back. The location, is the best. The hotel,at best is a 3.5-4 star. Since you are going to be on your honeymoon, try out the spa, they have some great treatments. I do loved to be pampered. Have fun, relax, Enjoy!!! :smooth:

I loved the Wyndam Palace when I stayed there in 2003. The room we had was a corner so we had a great view and it was spacious.

Sarah,

Hi again. I was wondering if you have returned from The Wyndham Palace yet. I go in 23 days! Wondering what you thought of it and if you have any pics you'd like to share.

Lori

hi,
we just got in so this is very short, but the Wyndham Palace is lovely, i dont really have any complaints. I think there was one member of staff who was a bit rude but other than that I couldnt fault the hotel. Disney on the other hand....well thats another story and I'm much too tired to tell it now but look out for my trip report and you'll get all the fun details!.

love
Sarah
