I am looking for advice on this resport--Wyndham Cypress Palms. I can trade into a two bedroom for the week I need in July, however a few of the reviews I have read online indicate it is close to Old Town. Some also mention newly refurbished units.

Can anyone tell me:

1. As a woman travelling alone for the last half of the week, would this resort be/feel safe?
2. Are all of the rooms refurbished or could I get an older run down one?

Or should I pass on this and hope RCI drops a better unit into the week I want?

TIA.

We stayed at this place about a year and a half ago. It wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. This is the thing. There is not a "guarded gate" on this property. It runs right behind a stip of businesses like Duncan Donuts and a few restuarants. I guess I walked over to get a cup fo coffee by myself one day and didn't feel like I wasn't safe, but don't think I would have at night. there is a road that runs right on the edge of the property that other people staying there had people come to swim and they just parked along that road and walked over to the pool area.

The place was decent..not sure if I would stay there by myself or not. Cannot help you on that one. but, the one single thing I did NOT like about that resort was that the rooms had walkways right outside your bedroom windows. Most timeshares we have stayed at had steps to get to the room but this one had all the walkways right outide the rooms and it was LOUD. I guess it is like most motels where on the second floor you walk right by the windows of all the rooms to get to your romms.

When we went they had about 1/2 of the rooms finished and I would bet they have them all done by now. A week before we left I called and asked for a refurb'd room and did receive one. It was nice.

As far as OLD town..it is NOT that close...would not walk there for sure.

I love Wyndham Cypress Palms. I have stayed there twice. I feel completely safe there. It is very convenient to restaurants, walking distance. I like the floor plan for the two bedroom. Kitchen has an island with is nice. If I get a chance I will definitely go back.
It is not that close to Old Town. You would have to drive there.

We've stayed there 3 or 4 times. It's not my favorite but it's a nice resort. The customer service is fantastic. If you need anything from housekeeping, they actually come.

Our units have always been updated and super clean. The pools have always been warm and there have always been plenty of towels. The parking is a little crazy. Sometimes, I think there are more cars than units but we always find something just not always in front of our unit.

Although it is on the strip with restaurants in front of it, you have the pools and a man made lake as a buffer between you and the strip. I've never been fearful of my safety there and I'm a worrier. That being said, I wouldn't walk around alone at night anywhere!
