It looks like AbD Japan is a go for next summer. The trip ends on a Tuesday morning, and we plan to head to Tokyo Disney directly from AbD. Schedule wise it would make a lot of sense to fly on Thursday morning, not Friday morning, but I worry that won’t be enough time in Tokyo Disney. What would you do? Stay an extra day or is 1.5 days enough?

We could potentially stay one more day but it makes life more complicated at home (have to get 3 off to camp early Sunday morning). It would be really nice to have one extra day at home.

Maybe the question for you is - will this be your only trip to Japan where you'll have a chance to do Tokyo Disney? If so, having gone all that way and knowing we might not return, we would certainly want the additional day. With the 2 parks, and the special new Fantasy Springs area, there will be a lot to see. But if you need to fly Thursday, perhaps consider a 1-night vacation package where you can stay near the parks and also get some of your attractions and meals included - make sure it includes the opportunity to get into Fantasy Springs, if you can. Currently, you cannot just walk into Fantasy Springs without a special access ticket.

Also, keep in mind, when you fly from Japan back to the US (I'm assuming you are returning to US), if you take off Friday morning in Japan, you'll be landing on Friday here due to the time differences (unless you would have some crazy layover someplace). So you'd be back Friday and would have Saturday to get organized. Good luck with your plans!

Yes, we would land Friday night. I have all day Saturday to get the laundry done and everyone repacked. My son has to report to the bus at 6am on Sunday and my husband will have an 8 hour driving day to drop my daughter off at camp and then join my son (he needs to drive anyway because they need the car up at camp). It’s going to be a long day for them.

Good point about sucking it up and staying the extra day. It’s probably not the only time we will ever go, but it may be a while. We plan to stay at whatever on property place gives us the best access to the parks.

It might not realistic, but maybe do TDR before your ABD trip? I know you'll need to get from Tokyo to Kyoto, but it might be something to consider a few days before ABD. Or return in the future and enjoy more time then! Have a great trip!

I'll be able to provide more details once I visit in October, but from what I've heard, Disneyland Park is pretty similar to Magic Kingdom and could be done on the last day of your ABD. Then you'd have a full day in Disney Sea before flying home. You wouldn't be able to do everything, especially in Fantasy Springs, but you could have a great time.

Tokyo Disneyland is a replica of Disneyland. We did the parks after our Japan ABD and stayed two nights at Mira Costa (loved the hotel and location right aside DisneySea). I grew up with Disneyland and so hitting the Tokyo version was a huge nostalgia trip for me-- seeing the Swiss Family treehouse! But DisneySea is so different, unique-- to take it all in, you could do 1.5 days and skip Disneyland or do the half at Disneyland and two days at DisneySea. I think 1 day won't be enough and you'll have regrets. Life is short, seize the moment!

The ABD technically ends on Monday night, so you can head to TD bright and early on Tuesday morning.

When we did the trip in 2019 there were a few families who left the ABD early and 1 family who took a day out the ABD to visit Disney.

If it were me, I’d try to head to Tokyo Disney no later than 7am (unless you forward all of your luggage from Tokyo) and line up for the parks. If you book a VP, that would count as your first day at the park and depending on what VP you book you could get unlimited FPs to all the headliners at both parks. I booked the unlimited package for my trip with my ds in January so we don’t have to stress about getting on all the rides at each park. However the other VPs also provide numerous FPs. Note that the unlimited VP is the most popular and the first to sell out (I was able to book ours without any issues and I even got FSH). By purchasing 1 of the VPs you should be able to see most of the parks in 2 nights / 2 days and leave on Thursday.

There is a lot of info on the parks / VPs in the Tokyo Disney thread.

I am on the ABD Japan trip from June 1 to June 10. I plan to go from the ABD to Tokyo Disney on the 10th (tuesday), and stay there until Saturday. I want to get the package for two of the days, but I may just get the hotel and tickets separately. I just wish the vacation package could be more than 2 days, because that means I would have to book a separate reservation for the hotel before or afterwards. :(

That last Tuesday, ABD offers 2 included transportation options. They'll either take the family to the Tokyo Airport of their choice, or they have an 8AM shuttle that will provide transportation to TDR. But any family can make and pay for their own transportation if they need something earlier or later. Depending how many are on that shuttle and which resorts require a stop, it's likely most guests will be to their TDR hotel around 9AM - which would allow them to spend a nice chunk of that first day in a park.

It might not be ideal, but you can book back-to-back 3day/2night packages to cover your stay.

do you think it's justified? I understand the benefits (I think) of the vacation package, but I was thinking of having at least one relaxation day to explore the rest of the resort.

Pros and cons. VPs are very expensive, but come with many perks and early reservation options. You can also book them weeks ahead of hotel-only. It might be the best way to get a reservation at the Fantasy Springs resort, too - if that's important. So only you can tell if it's justified for you!

I would consider booking a package for part of it because of the Fantasy Springs Passport. It get you into the land at any time and unlimited premier access to the rides. Then book the rest of your nights as regular rooms and buy tickets as needed.

We are also doing Japan next summer (July). We plan on going 4 days to Tokyo Disney after ABD. We want to stay on property which is hard to get. It appears that the package trip might be easier for the main booking so we hope to do 2 day package (the most you can do) which has 3 park days and then pick up another hotel only the first night and then the 4th night. Hopefully all on property. If you hope to stay on property make sure you understand the booking process since it is so different that WDW.

I think I will do this.

Tuesday, last day of ABD. Go to Toy Story hotel for one night with regular hotel stay. Relax and explore the area on Tuesday.
Wednesday and thursday night, do package plan (the one called attractions and even more). This gives only two days in the parks, but unlimited fastpass I think. Stay at Toy Story hotel.
Friday get another night at Toy Story hotel, and go to DisneySea on regular ticket.
Saturday, check out and fly home.

I guess only question is whether i can keep room, or have to keep on checking in and out.

Friday

That sounds like a solid plan. You might have already done this, but we'd recommend having a backup hotel reservation at something like the TDR Sheraton or Hilton in case you don't get the resort rooms you want - and have something to fall back to where you can still enjoy the nights near the resort. Then cancel that when you hopefully get the VP and single nights you want. I would expect, if you're on the site right when the VPs open, you can get a mid-week 2-night package. And then on the site exactly 4 months out for each of the single nights, you could make this happen - and then ask when you arrive if they can keep you in the same room. Have a great trip!
