wwyd? should I cancel?

Since most of it is already paid for I'd say GO!!! You can always make the trip cheaper by cancelling restaurants and just doing cheaper quick service meals, meals in your villa and off-site meals. That should all be no problem since you will have your car via the auto-train.

However I think I might switch the Swan reservation to points if you have them or somewhere even cheaper.

Good luck to your DH on the job search!

I too would go since most of it is already paid for, and eliminate what isn't already paid for, and just be sensible about what you need to spend while there for food.

Negotiating the time off with a new employer is key, of course, but with that in mind too, it might be a while before you'll be able to go again until a new position/company approves vacation time for a new hire. Having been laid off in years past, I get where you're coming from. It's kind of a tricky situation wanting to ensure a new position is there, but at the same time pausing to regroup, relax and refresh is important too. But all things considered, I'd go if it were me or us in that situation.

DH and I were just faced with this same situation. We had paid for an 8 day trip to Disney staying at the Pop including park tickets ddp and airfare so everything was already paid for.
I got laid off in August and didn't know if I would have a job by Sept or if I did if I would be able to take off right away.

Luckily I got a job fairly quick and explained to them in the interview when asked when I could start, that I had the trip planned and paid for and that we also have another trip in March planned and paid for since I had the time coming at my previous job and didn't expect to lose my position. They were VERY understanding and said that it happens a lot. They offered me the job the next day. Actually I personally think that the Disney aspect of my trip helped me get the job b/c the person who hired me asked where I was going and we talked about Disney for about 15 minutes of my 30 minute interview lol He is going to Disney the day we get back.

So, if it's already paid for, I say go. I'd be honest and upfront with potential employers and not expect to be paid for the time off. I know that with all the stress we have been under this year, this trip was one of the things keeping us going since we could look forward to it. If we had cancelled it would have been a hit to our wallet and a hit to our emotional state.

I say go! :thumbsup2 I was unemployed from December 2009 to August 2010, and we had kept out October WDW plans intact. I am now employed, but told them before accepting the position, that we had this trip planned and paid for, and they had not problem with it. I did say that I expected to take it unpaid, so that may have made it easier for them to consider. But the HR person told me that this happens all of the time so they just let the hiring manager know.

Go, relax, have some time for yourselves. I always leave the real world at the gate as we enter WDW. :cloud9: BTW here is some pixiedust:pixiedust: for your DH on his job search!

Go and have a great time.If you can do it financially getting away will improve your DH's state of mind.

I'd say go...but, if circumstances happened that you couldn't go after the cancel deadline, put the vacation reservation up for rent. There are basically no rooms available now, and may be able to recoup points/money that way as well.
Overall, you and your family have to feel comfortable with your decision, despite what the rest of us may or may not do. Wish you the best in your decision and new employment! :thumbsup2
