WWYD? Service Charge + Tip???

For my wedding reception next weekend... If there is an 18% service charge... Is this the same as the tip (gratuity)? Or do I need to give an extra tip to the banquet hall manager?

What is your experience with this?

I should add... this hasn't been a 100% happy experience with this banquet hall... I would not go with him again!!!

I would guess that the 18% is the tip.

Yes, that 18% service charge is the gratuity (tip). That's pretty customary for large orders (tables over 12, parties, events, etc.).

My DM has been making payments on the reception since we reserved it back in December 2005. The final bill appears to be about $600 less than she has paid (they owe us $600.) The manager of the hall just asked my DM if she just wanted to put that towards the tip...

I'm starting to think that this man is crazy!!!

thats most likely the tip-and check your contract. some places will tack the 'service charge' on top of the entire bill and not the items the contract designates (like the separate charge for the rental fee, corkage fees, cakeage fees , rental of specific items)-ask for an itemized accounting of the charges following the event.

It's hard to remember this right now with all the crud that's going on with your reception hall, but anyway...
Remember...actually it's the *marriage* that's important, not the wedding .

Actually, I'm the only one that seems to be ok here!!! DH2B hasn't been sleeping well all week, my poor DM isn't sleeping well!!!
I'm the type to do my research... plan everything out, and then do some more research!!! I figure it this way: I've done all my research and planned the entire day & honeymoon as best as I could. At this point, I can't change anything and really wouldn't want to!!! At the end of the day on September 9th, we will be married! It doesn't matter what goes on that day, if things go well or not, we'll still be married!!! In other words, the outcome of the day is not dependant on our performance!!! This makes things so much easier!!!
