AK and yes we did.Which resort did you buy? Did you get 2022 points even at the 11th hour?
Congratulations!!! I think I even saw the 40 point contract you were looking at - I think it's over priced if it is the one at $143/point. Only noticed, because I'm in the midst of nearly the identical decision process over a 50 point AKL contract (but with a different Use Year)! I wish I was you, and had the buying decision in the rear view mirror lol. Enjoy AKL!AK and yes we did.
I believe it is 25 for a cash/credit card sale and 50 minimum if you want to financeI know this has been answered before, but what’s the smallest direct contact now? 40?
For future reference or others in the same situation, you have 10 days to back out of the contract without penalty. If it's coming down to the wire, you might be better off signing the direct contract a few days before the very end and then make your decision. This way you lock in the 2022 points but don't feel as much pressure to make a decision right as the clock strikes midnight.
I know direct is a bit more money but the buying experience is so easy once the decision is made and the points are in your account and banked in less than 2 hours …Congratulations!!! Correct 50 is the minimum to finance … our last 2 contracts have been 35 and 40 paid cash.I believe it is 25 for a cash/credit card sale and 50 minimum if you want to finance

That makes sense since it's a new UY (= new membership) and a new membership is a 100 pt minimum buy-in. Once you have the resale to set up the new membership you can add on direct in smaller than 100 increments.I just contacted DVC to buy a small contract at one of the original 14 resorts (different use year) and was told I need to buy it Resale if under 100 points - this came straight from the DVC Guide (Gibbs). Said once you buy a resale contract, then you can add to it with small Direct add on points. Wow. I'm in shock.
Okay, thanks, helpful to know he was giving a straight answer. It was a still a few THOUSAND dollars more to go Direct than Resale (and would not have qualified for Membership Extras either way). I am still blind-sided sometimes by the (current) Disney marketing mentalityThat makes sense since it's a new UY (= new membership) and a new membership is a 100 pt minimum buy-in. You could always match your current UY and then buy the smaller contract points quantity without doing the resale step.

I think more likely related to their marketing / bottom line than anything to do with customer satisfaction - but admire your DVC glass is half-full attitudeIt surprised me too. Could be they don’t want to encourage buying a small contract if that has negatively affected satisfaction in the past. Smaller contracts can be harder to use since likely relying on banking/borrowing and lower point rooms, views and seasons. Adding it on to an existing membership helps avoid some of those issues.

I thought you could buy a new membership at 25 and 50 points years ago? Or am I confusing with minimum amounts needed for blue card?DVD has always been consistent that a new membership, regardless of whether it’s a current or new owner meet the minimum fhat is required.
The reasons being that a contract is only an add on when it goes to an established memberhsip.

The main point is the reasoning why they don’t want to sell smaller point contracts stranded in its own membership.
