WWYD? MNSSHP 10/2 or 10/7?

Hello everyone,

Since I keep going back and forth on these two dates for MNSSHP I thought I would pose my questions to the experts! My family consists of myself, DH, DD(5) and DD(2). This will be just the third Disney park visit for the girls (once to DW, once to DL). DD(2) on our most recent visit to DL in December was a little shy of meeting the characters. She *loved* the princesses and princes and readily ran into their arms, but she wasn't quite ready to give any big bear hugs to Mickey and his friends. DD(5) loves the characters and most rides, but is still a little uncertain of Pirates of the Caribbean, the Evil Queen, and fireworks.

We plan to vacation from 10/1-10/8 and are traveling from California. I've already purchased tickets for 10/2, but I'm wondering if starting off our vacation with a late evening at a Halloween party might not be such a good idea for our family. I don't want our youngest to be fearful of seeing the characters for the remainder of our trip; and I wouldn't want our oldest to be afraid of going on any of the dark rides at MK or even just being in the park at night.

However with the alternative of purchasing tickets for 10/7, I'm worried the crowds will be really large for the Halloween party (Columbus Day weekend) and perhaps we may not be able to enjoy it as much. Also, by the end of our vacation I'm wondering if the girls will be too tired to make it late into the evening on our last night. On the plus side for doing the party on 10/7, perhaps our youngest would have warmed up to the characters by then and being it's our last night, if anything were to scare them, it wouldn't ruin the rest of our vacation.

So, for those who have done the MNSSHP before and maybe even were in a similar situation as ours, what would you do? Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Amy

There is also one on 10/6, that's when we're thinking of going. We went last year on 10/8, a Friday night and it was packed, first sell out of the year. I guess it depends how late your flight home is on 10/8, because we tended to want to sleep in after being at the park till 11:30. Truly, the park lit up for Halloween is something to see! There is enough light so that you don't feel isolated, just a different sight from normal nights.

I would do the party on 10/2. We did that party last year (it was Sun 10/3) and we litteraly walked on every ride and up to every candy stop. I think by Thursday 10/6 more people will be coming in for an extended Columbus Day weekend (that is what it seemed like last year when we were there!).
