At least it's an awesome problem to have - how to decide between GF and BC, both CL, for our trip in January. Here's some background info - DH turns 50 on Jan 11, and has been in training for his first half-marathon, which occurs the day after his birthday. Originally I had booked BC, then upgraded to CL as a b-day surprise. With the RO offer out, decided to switch to GF Sugarloaf, for about the same price. Best reasons - being on the monorail to hop over at 4:00am on race day, plus me and DDs can watch him run by during the race.

But, just found out friends of ours,( the DH is running the Goofy!), are staying at BC. And we would really love to hang out with them at Stormalong Bay. So what to do? Stay with GF? Go back to BC? For what it's worth, we have stayed in a reg. room at GF but never have stayed at BC. Only CL experience was years ago at the Poly! I'm so torn...

I might be wrong, but I highly doubt the monorail will be running at 4am. I thought I saw somewhere that the earliest it starts is 6am. Or, do they do something special for race days?

Sugarloaf CL is not nearly as nice as RPC at GF but it's definitely better than BC CL in my opinion. BC CL is my least favorite at WDW.

I have been in January the past three years. It has never been warm enough to use the pools, at least for me and my family. If your interest in BC is the pool I wouldn't count on it being warm enough to swim. Although the pools are heated the air can still be very cold. 2 years ago it was in the 20's/30s the entire marathon weekend and week after.

Also, the half marathon runs through MK, definitely being at GF will make watching a little easier. I don't think the monorail runs early enough to get the racers to the start of the half; bus service is provided. I could be wrong on that one though. Definitely will be available for the finish of the race if you want to head over to meet afterwards. The only way to/from BC to the race is the bus unless, after the race you enter Epcot with a ticket and walk through to International Gateway.
