I got a free quick service pin code in January and used it to book my trip for August at POP. I decided to upgrade to the regular dining and pay the difference which was around $300. So here is the package details:
Aug 2-7th, POP preferred room, 5day w/waterpark, regular dining for 4 people (which I paid the difference for)-- $2389 ( already booked and I am paying it out)
Ok, I came across a thread last night when someone was asking about the free dining pin and said she thought it was free quick service for both value and moderate and that it didn't go to free regular dining until you went to a deluxe resort. I could have sworn that when I called to book my package last month that I asked about if I upgraded my resort if I would get regular dining free instead of quick service. She said yes but I guess since I was already set on POP thinking a value would be the cheapest option and what we can afford I booked POP. Then I got excited about the dining plan and thinking about all the fun places like character meals that there is no way I would pay OOP for if not on the plan and I upgraded. Now it just dawned on me if I am willing to pay the $300 to upgrade the plan where I could get that plan for free with a moderate, might as well go with a moderate. So I called today to ask about my original pin code and whether if it was free quick service or free regular when I upgrade to a moderate. Now, this lady actually made me nervous because she acted like she didn't know what was going on and it was surprising because this is the first time out of all the calls I have made making reservations that I felt like that. Anyways she confirmed what I thought, I can get free regular dining with a moderate and she gave me a quote through CBR for example with free regular dining and it 2331.
So I guess Number one, would you call back and get someone else to make sure she knew what she was talking about? She did make me nervous and I kept saying please don't change my reservation yet I just want to inquire right now. At first she came back with a 2600 figure then I asked her did she apply my free dining code. She put me on hold for a long time and then came back with the 2331.
Number 2 would you choose a moderate over POP if the money was the same like it is in my case since I had already decided to upgrade to regular dining? I mean I was actually getting very excited about POP. However, the only con was the rooms and the double beds, etc.. If you would change, what moderate would you choose and does the standard view in a moderate mean you are far away from everything?
Thanks

For the same amount, why not go to a moderate! We are trying a moderate for the first time in late August with the free dining. I am thinking of it as free upgrade. We were originally at POP too and changed to POR, so we wouldn't have to pay for the upgrading of the dining plan. I think POFQ and POR will all have queen beds by then.

The only thing I dislike about the moderates is how spread out they are. To get basically the same or similar price I am going to have to book standard view with a moderate. Right now I have a preferred room booked with POP which will put close to the main building. I think if I choose a preferred room category with some of the moderates it puts our package right at 2500 so about 100 more than what package is with POP. I do not want to be stuck out in the furthest building. Being close to the main building/food courts/bus stops is important. LIke I said, I had actually gotten really excited and confident about my choice in POP. The only downsides were no hot tub or pool slide and the smaller rooms and beds. However since we were getting preferred everything should be pretty convenient and central as far as pools, food court, etc.. And all the positive reviews for POP really got me excited. Oh this is so frustrating!!!

If you are at all concerned about the size of the moderates. Look into POFQ. It is half the size (has half the number of rooms) as the other mods. We loved POFQ and you can use the amenities at POR (about a 5 minute walk between them).

In my opinion...Upgrade!!! The queen beds and ceiling fans are reason enough. While the mods may be larger and more spread out, there are multiple bus stops and you are never really that far from a bus stop whether in a preferred location or not. We have stayed at CSR a couple of times and had great locations both times in a standard room. We always make room requests to be near a bus stop and near the pool. Since this is a unique situation where it will be about the same to stay in a mod or a value take the opportunity to upgrade, but maybe sometime during your stay go over to the Pop and check it out and even enjoy a meal in the food court. See if it is somewhere you would want to stay on future visits. Either way enjoy your trip!

I have read that moderate qualifies for free upgraded dining, but in writing on the site, it says deluxe only. This would be perfect for us, though, as we are planning tp book at FW Cabins, and wanted the regular dining plan, not QS. The time frame when we go should include free dining. (fingers crossed!)

You wouldn't have to ask me twice! Go for the moderate! You don't have to book preferred. We've stayed at POR and CBR without preferred and was close enough to food court and main pool. At CBR we were in Jamaica, and POR in Magnolia Bend- the mansion section. In either Acadian Place or Magnolia Terrace, ask for a location close to Old Man Island bridge.

The phone lines will be very busy tomorrow, as Free dining opens up to the general public for late summer dates. So I'd get on the phone when the lines open so you won't have a 30 min hold time.
