WWYD: BCV 10 nights or Split w/AKV [Updated 05/04/09 - Post#31]

Yandbfan,

Having a car makes it a lot easier if you do not mind getting up early, I always am at the new resort at 7am and in the majority of cases I have not been “homeless” at all (maybe I am just lucky). It may help that I am usually changing on a Sunday, since it is likely that there are more “vacancies” on Saturday night due to the higher points

I would definately do a split. It truly feels like 2 different vacations. 10 days is great for a split.
Happy planning

Best split stay ever!!
We love a split stay with BCV & AKV.

We did it last summer & will be doing it again this July (8 nights BCV & 3 nights AKV). We're doing this split stay with another DVC family as well.

I'm so glad to hear that! I just scheduled a split stay between those two resorts for October. However, I planned for the first 4 days to be at AKV, then 6 at BCV. I'm going during the F&W festival, so I figure that for the first few days, I'll do AK and MK, then on my switch over day, I'll go to Epcot, get the F&W schedule at the Festival Center, then walk thru Epcot to check in at BCV. And if my room isn't ready, I can take the time to read the festival brochure and set up my plans. My days staying at BCV are for Epcot, and if I want a change, DHS. And if booking for the tours gets straightened out so that we can get the DVC discount again without a hassle, I'm planning to do Wild By Design while at AKV. How does that sound? I love split stays.

Wow.. .so glad to hear so many don't mind doing this.

We are doing 7 nights at BCV and then 5 nights at AKV. We've never stayed at either place before and are really looking forward to what they both have to offer. :goodvibes We will have a car so my plan is to run over to AKV early and try and get into the room. If we can't no big deal though.

We have often done a split stay, in fact, our June is a BCV and AKV split!

You know, the disboards can be very stressful and unsettling for a Type A person like me. :cutie: I currently have 10 nights booked in a studio at BCV for early June - never stayed there. Then I start seeing all the incredible photos of AKV [it's my home resort for a reason] which I dearly love.

Should I see about waitlisting for the last 3 nights at AKV? Would save me about 18 points, BUT, not sure if I want to pack and re-pack. Because of my point borrowing addiction, it will probably be 2 years before we make it back.

Someone just make the call for me.

Well as someone who has done almost exactly this. I can't quite make the call for you, but I can tell you have the exact right arguments. We are BCV home owners, and really wanted to see AKV. So when the 7 month came up, we changed a couple of nights for AKV. I *am* glad I saw it and it really is a beautiful resort. But we were glad to get back "home" and yes, the moving was a bit of a hassle. That being said, Disney bell services made it a breeze, it was just a hassle to re-pack, check out of AKV, check in to BCV.

I know, probably more confused now eh?

I personally wouldn't want to split my stay. However, I agree with a lot of post here saying that it would be worth a try if you want to experience both resorts.

We had a 2 week stay booked at BCV for this summer (11 monthss in advance) and because of unforseen changes about 5 mths prior(I am also a type A person, so this drove me nuts), I had to change my trip and all I could get was 1 week in BCV and 1 week in AKV and although I was a little upset about it since I absolutely hate packing and unpacking, I am trying to look at it as if it's two different vacations. ;)

Wow.. .so glad to hear so many don't mind doing this.

It's funny....it always seems like more people mind it than don't. We have a trip planned for August (it just so happens it's a split stay :)) and I started a thread "Who's Going in August?". I can't believe how many people who have posted have split stays planned :thumbsup2. One poster had 4 different stays! I'd have to go back and count but it seemed at least 50/50.

Edit: I went back and counted -- out of 85 responses, 34 of them were split stays so 40%.

We always split & did BCV/AKV last year - these are 2 excellent resorts to split. I find I relax more when I move from the Epcot area.

I've always done split stays... they are a bit hectic with packing and moving (leave any phone chargers behind? LOL) but there are tricks... live out of the suitcase, tie the charger cord to the suitcase etc.

I wouldn't recommend switching for anything less than 3 or 4 nights though. Personal preference.

Well, I couldn't help myself. :goodvibes The pictures for Kidani looked too cool, so on April 24th I went on a WL for either a standard view or savannah view studio - deciding I wouldn't be heartbroken if it didn't come through because of the great location of BCV. It came through today. :yay: And while I am truly not looking forward to repacking for 3 nights  - I must say I am excited to try out the new place.

Thanks for all the great advice. :flower3:
