I can purchase JFK/MCO for NJ Teachers Convention Week (11/4-11/11). Fares are either $237 (9:35AM down; 11:35AM back) or $257 (9:35AM down; 2:05PM back). Is 2 more hours worth $80 for a family of 4? If we take the earlier return, we can't go to the parks at all on departure day. If we take the later one, we can get 2-3 hours before we leave.

What to do? Is it worth the $80 or am I just being crazy? We go so often, maybe I should save the money and head out earlier.

Anyone?

For me I don't think I would spend the extra money. Unless you have AP's it will also include an extra day at the parks for just a few hours. I would just head home a little earlier.

I do have APs and will be renewing them on that trip. However, I decided that I was being silly for thinking of spending that much for just a couple of extra hours, especially when we're going down for free dining in September (and we were there in April and February).

So I booked the earlier departure out of MCO and saved $80 overall for the 4 of us. Although somehow I don't feel like I saved much as this is probably the highest I've ever paid for tickets. But I'm glad I have them and only expect they are going to go up over the next few months. And if they do drop, I'll ask for a credit for a future trip.

Thanks again. At least now I know for sure we'll be using our DVC points for our first trip "home."

I would have done the same thing, especially since you're going back down in September. You're right about airfare, we're paying almost $70 more a ticket this year compared to last. However, we had the opposite issue with our tickets. We saved $30 each by leaving MCO at 6:30 pm rather than taking an afternoon flight :cool1: So we will get to go to the parks until about 2:30pm

And considering the mess at MCO for a 2 pm flight you need to be there no later then noon which means you have to leave the parks at what 10:30 or 11??? Unless its an EMH at your park, you aren't going to get much done...

I could have stayed for a later flight, but as we're flying into JFK and live in Western NJ, it's a bit of a drive home. We've found that the kids are just bagged by the time we land (probably the let down from the trip and the travelling). So if we arrived at 7 or 8 PM, and then had the hour or more drive home, they'd be trashed. So as much as I would have preferred a few hours in the park in the morning, this will be better for everyone concerned.

That would make a difference. I'm flying into Washington DC (IAD) and only live 30 minutes from the airport.
