WWBBD: Keep or drop insurance on smartphones?

I recommend Squaretrade for all electronics. I've had cell phones, tablets, laptops all repaired, refunded, or replaced. Between my sons and I, over the years we've dropped phones in water, cracked ipad and phone screens, etc. Right now, they are offering coverage for old iPhones. They usually give you a certain amount of time to buy coverage.

I would drop insurance and buy and Otterbox from Amazon or Ebay. Next time buy AppleCare Plus up front. $99 for 2 years.

No we don't insure our phones. When we upgrade phones, we keep the old ones. If something were to happen to our phone, we would just transfer back to our old phone (in my case it is the iPhone 4 so it wouldn't be too bad, although I would miss Siri).

We do not have insurance on the cell phones because we expect everyone to be responsible. When one of the kids gets a cell phone for the first time we get the cheapest w/o any extra stuff. When we/they think that they are responsible enough we move on to more expensive and more features. Then each owner is responsible for that phone. So far it works for us.

I still have it on my iPhone 4, probably don't need it, the phone is old now.
