WW worked too well for me...any suggestions for other programs?

I need to lose alot of weight, I'm almost 100 lbs overweight based on the info at the Dr's office. A few years ago I did fabulous...too fabulous...with WW and so I'd like to try something else. I became VERY points obsessed when I was on WW. I would eat the minimum amount of points every day and not only did I get too thin, I did it in a way I could not maintain as a lifestyle. My daily food consisted of Kashi Two Good Friends cereal with skim milk (technically because of the fiber/fat ratio, it was almost like negative points), a salad w/fat free italian dressing, a slice of Manitowoc Ovens high fiber bread with a butter spray and a 5 point frozen lunch, then the same for dinner but maybe a few more points on the frozen dinner plus some steamed veggies with butter spray, and a 3 point snack/dessert. I also worked out 6-7 days a week. I lost 50 lbs and 25 overall total body inches. It sounds like a success story and I was treated like one, but as I look back it was teetering on the verge of an eating disorder. Now I'm afraid to diet. On WW, my journal was PERFECT every day 5 servings of fruit/veggies (always veggies b/c fruits would "cost" me too many points), 8 glasses of water and the minimum number of points. Can anyone suggest to me a program that isn't costly but won't put me in the same predicament of being the perfect dieter?
TIA for any help/suggestions

:welcome: to WISH!

wow...what a journey. you know I have been DVRing old Biggest Loser shows for inspiration and Bob Harper said "Plans don't work because you end up gaining it back at some point" I was like, you know Bob, I did that. I'm sorry for your regain, but i'm way proud of you for facing your reality and deciding to do something. You know you will be successful b/c you have been. sorry i'm rambling........

check your library for Dr. Phil's Weight Loss solution or the Biggest Loser book. I have Dr. Phil's book and have glanced throgh BL -- but to my recollection they are both more along teaching the lifestyle of healthy choices and allowing for life (birthday cake, special meals out, etc)

keep us posted on your decision please  :thumbsup2

Welcome to WISH!

Going "by the book" seems to have gotten you on the right path, it just never became a healthy lifestyle.

My thought is to not use that D-word. I am sure WW helped you learn healthy choices. Think back to that and look for those choices that are going to give you balance.

I'd look through the library too. There are eating options. I would also recommend that you journal your lifestyle. Not just eating, but all the good choices you are making to be healthier.

You can do this, and the way you are looking to do it makes me believe you want to do the right things. Good for you! That is major.

I am interested in your decision. Please join us by sharing your journey.

I think WW is a great way to approach weight loss. Maybe if you speak with the leader after the meeting to get ways to keep a handle on how not to obsess about the points...and to use the points you're supposed to use...

I find it hard to ALWAYS remain perfectly on program, but I know I'm making better choices because of the guidelines WW uses.

Good luck - I'm back on the WW wagon after losing a bunch a year or so ago, and then stopping and putting most back on. I'm dreading starting all over again, but I can't go on doing what I've been doing the last year.

It does not seem as if the amount of food was the problem. What you listed must have been over 1,000 calories and therefore a pretty good amount for healthy weight loss. It seems as though you just have to have some support such as a meeting or something to keep everything in perspective and to show that losing weight is not the most important thing.

Could you just do calorie counting? I'm having great success by cutting out all of the junk and just making sure I eat a healthy, well-balanced 1200-1400 calories per day. I'm concentrating on keeping my meals low fat and do use a lot of WW recipes, but I think I'd go nuts trying to keep track of points. :)

I just got some weight loss hypnosis CDs from Tom Nicoli (the CDs got 5 stars from Shape Magazine and Dateline had a show where a guy was successful with this hypnotist). I am starting to at least notice a difference in my attitude and portion sizes. I just started but I will keep posting on whether or not this is working. So far I am feeling peaceful and balanced and in control. As far as food goes, I got fast food for the kids last night and I got a side salad and fruit n yogurt salad for myself. I ate the salad, felt full, mowed the lawn and then ate the fruit and yogurt. Normally, I'd feel "cheated" if I didn't at least have a few fries. They didn't appeal to me. Also, I'm an evening snacker and when it crossed my mind last night I just decided not to have one. I don't feel hungry or like I need food to satisfy an emotional need. It could be me convincing myself this will work or the hypnosis itself, I guess it really doesn't matter. We'll see how it goes...so far I am pleased.
