Just wondering how many of you have gone from WW to Atkins. I have been a diehard WW for 2 years. I weigh about the same as when I started. Yesterday I bought the Atkins book and did some serious reading. Today I decided to take the leap. I am going to do the induction phase and see how it goes. Have any of you had success doing this? Also, I read that if you have thyroid problems or are taking antidepressents that it may slow your weight loss down. I take meds for both. Am I wasting my time? Thanks for any and all thoughts and suggestions.

I'm trying to focus on eating healthier food for my body. I know my body does not get the nutrition it needs from lots of sugar and lots of empty carbohydrates. I try to eat an adequate amount of protein each day, along with lots of healthy veggies. If I eat this way, my body will have all the materials it needs to stay healthy.

Since I weigh more than I should, when I eat this way, my body sheds the unnecessary weight - not because I'm dieting, but because I'm eating healthy. The weight loss is a lovely side effect of feeding my body the very best and healthiest food.

Of course I'm not perfect so there are times when I eat lots of sugar and carbs, but I try to make those times an occasional thing and not my normal way of eating.

When you're taking antidepressants and you have lower thyroid function (which is why you're taking thyroid meds), your body tends to hold onto the extra weight a bit longer, so it may take you longer to shed the extra pounds. However, you STILL should focus on giving your body the most nutritious foods.

This was my long-winded way of saying - doesn't matter what you're taking, please eat healthy foods. It WILL pay off in the end, I promise. :sunny:

I lost a lot of weight on WW and felt that it would be good to try something new. I started Atkins and thought that this would be the one for me. It was ok for a few days but because ww focuses on low fat and Atkins doesn't it was quite a transition. I managed to stick with Atkins for two weeks but I felt so ill and all the fat I was eating was upsetting my system.

I'm back on WW and determind to succeed this time.

Hope you do well whatever one you decide on.

I've done WW in the past and also Atkins. Presently I'm doing South Beach. I think you might have an easier transition to SB than Atkins. SB emphasizes lean meats low in saturated fat, vegetables, legumes, and consumption of "good" fats (olive oil, nuts, avacados...)You also add in fruit and whole grains after the first two weeks. You don't count carbs, you just eat the "good" carbs (low on glycemic index, high in fiber). If you find Atkins to be too different from ww, you might want to check out SB. Good luck.

I totally dod not see this post................
AND I just posted the same type of question aminute ago. However I am considerin the oppisite! how funny is that?
I think I too will take the leap............

I've done just the opposite. I started on Atkins and lost about 8 pounds in 2 weeks, but I couldn't stand the diet anymore. I switched to WW and I've been very happy. Incidentally, the one thing I kept from Atkins was really paying attention to carbs. I think I've been doing well so far.
