Hi Everyone,

This was one of our best meetings as far as people sharing, talking and really having a great discussion. I think we are all getting to know each other really well and several of us are meeting at one of the members houses for a "ww" dinner. Everyone is bringing a dish.

This week wwe talked about how everyone liked the flex points. Most people (that spoke up) seemed to not like them. Some people seem to not like the freedom it gives. She explained that you could use them as a range like the old way (example 22-27 for the old 20-25 range), Use them like WW intended, or keep doing it the old way. Some people never started doing it the old way. My leader doesn't like the new way. I on the other hand, love the new way. Once I went to Vegas, I really learned what flexibility it gave me. I could go for my target, but if we went somewhere or the need came up to need some extra points, they were there for me to use. I even splurged at the end of the week at Red Lobster and had Lobster and scallops, salad no dressing, one biscuit, mashed potatoes and rice. It was scrumptious and I know I wouldn't of had as many points to spend if I didn't have the extra "flex points".

This week we talked about Exercise. My leader is very into exercise, so it was one of her favorite topics. She explained how the new flex program means that you must use or loose your exercise points. It makes sense, if you think about how you used to do it. You earn 4 extra points on Monday to use that Friday, 4 days after you earned them. You need your points to fuel your body the day you worked out!

I was actually surprised when she asked how many people eat their exercise points. Most said no. I do because I want to have my body be used to loosing at a higher points range. Even if it means I loose slower. I think I have done well though since 6/2/03.

There were a lot of questions asked, like one girl has been very stressed at work, so she has been relieving the stress by watching more tv. She has been unfortunately adding snacking to her tv watching. Some ideas were......putting lotion on your hands while watching TV (a strong smelling lotion), putting those mints on your tongue (they are like paper), brushing your teeth, doing something with your hands like holding dumbells, water, knitting, crosswords. Keeping low point snack foods in the house will also keep you from making unwise choices, and even if you over eat it won't be so bad. Ideas were: 98% fat free popcorn, soy crisps, meringues, melba toast and low fat cheese, refried beans and salsa.

This was a great meeting. I am sort of tired and still need to work out, if I remember more I will post tomorrow.

The meeting topic was about exercising.

Melanie,

Can you further explain how flex points work? Did they change the point ranges? I know I am currently in the 22-27 range based on the old point system. What do flex points change? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Leanne,

You take your lowest number in your range (22) and add 2 to that =24. This number becomes your "target" number. You must eat 24 points per day. You are targeting your "target" number. Each week you get 35 flex points to use however you like them. That is an extra 5 points per week. You can use them each day and make your range 24-29, or go for your target of 24 and just use your 35 flex points when you need extra points. You can also go to ww's website and click on flex points and they will explain it. They just don't give you your "target" number. You must get that from the meetings.

Let me know if I din't explain it well enough, or need extra help.

for sharing what topics are brought up and the input you got. as a WW on-my-own, I really appreciate you sharing all that!!

I really took to heart the point you made about losing slowly and eating more to transition into maintainence with more success (on another post mostly). that hit home to me! that makes so much sense, you are brillant:smooth:

Melanie,

Thanks for the info on Flex. If I understand correctly, I can stay at 24 points per day, and, say, splurge on Sunday, if I need a few extra points, or I could take the flex points and add them to the daily allotment for 29 points per day. I think I'd rather have those flex points in the bank for a weekly splurge.

Exactly! It's nice to be able to splurge once in a while too!

Melanie
