I bought 2 extra Hess Firetrucks this year. I thought my sister would want one and I got another one for my MIL to give to my DH's cousin's boy. MIL didn't want it, she had gotten him something else, and my sister got her own.

I put them both on EBay Sunday morning, a 3 day auction. Knowing it would be a mad dash for Christmas shipping, I made sure the auction ended in the morning, so if they paid instantly, I could get my butt to the PO and get them out Priority. The 1st auction winner paid instantly, and within 20 minutes, the package is on it's way. That was at 11:30am. Here I am, constantly checking me e-mail to see if the 2nd winner paid, and nothing yet. I can't ship if I don't get paid. I hope they don't want it for Christmas, because as the day whittles away, I am more and more worried we will have missed the window of opportunity.

Why do I concern myself? If they were desperate for it for Christmas, they would of done what the 1st winner did....so why am I driving myself crazy?

Ebay makes me mental. DH managed to get an extra Xbox 360, which we put up on ebay. The auction ended 12/18. We offered overnight shipping, etc. They guy pays via echeck through paypal, so we have to wait for the funds to clear. The guy is emailing each day asking if the package shipped and telling us that he already paid!

The funds finally cleared an hour ago, thank goodness. Hopefully your person will pay soon so you can quit worrying about it. I would be doing the same thing, because I would be worried they would blame me if if it was their fault!

Obviously because you are a kind person. We just sold a lot of Hallmark ornaments and the winner waited to pay and I to was hoping he didn't want them for Christmas. They were mailed yesterday going to NJ, not sure if they will make it in time though.

Did you point out to the person that sending an echeck is not an automatic form of payment? I have had this happen too and the people seem totally shocked when I tell them I am waiting for their payment to clear. I don't get the whole echeck thing. I mean, who doesn't have a credit card attached to their checking account these days? I just use that. Some people are totally uneducated when it comes to this stuff.

OP, you are a nice person, that is why you are stressing. I am the same way. I probably would have already sent them a note saying to remember that they need xxx amount of time to get it for Christmas. Of course, I would also be worrying that they were not going to pay me and I would be screwed.

I am not worried about not getting paid, because the auction only ended a few hours ago. I guess I just assumed they would want it for Christmas, and this is probably the last shipping day. Maybe they don't want it for Christmas at all. I still can't stop myself from worrying about it.

Myabe they are just not at their computer right now. Like I said, I would be worried about them not getting it in time too.

Actually, many sellers do not accept payment if it's sent via a credit card. I think if you have a personal account with Paypal (no fees for those users) they can't accept credit card payments without switching the type of account they have, thus forcing them from that point on to pay Paypal fees for ALL transactions in the future. For the occasional seller, they simply don't want to do that. I know some people have set up 2 accounts to get around this.

What shocks me though is, you can tie your Paypal account to your checking account and just have the payment drafted from your checking. There is no wait time either because it's instant like a credit card transaction. The people with personal accounts have no Paypal fees to pay and can accept payment to a certain amount of money each month without upgrading their account.

I just don't understand why anyone would need to use those checks. Who doesn't have a checking account?

I did tell them that, but I don't think they understand.

Frankly Paypal confuses the heck out of me. Everytime I think the account is all set up, they want more info, check here, click here, check this email, do this, do that. We had to upgrade to a Premiere account just to accept this payment because it was over some sort of limit.

Well, I hate to tell you, but by upgrading, you just upgraded yourself to being charged for every transaction in the future, REGARDLESS of which payment option people use in the future.

I've got an upgraded account too, but at least when I upgraded (I don't sell much but wanted the ability to accept credit card payments) I was fully aware of what would happen in the future.

If this isn't what you want, open a 2nd account to accept bank transfers with no fees.

It's been pointed out on the budget board here that if you choose to accept Paypal on ebay then you must accept all forms , including credit cards and echecks. Apparently this was put into effect back in August

Here's a quote from the Paypal board over on Ebay:
I am a personal Paypal account holder and I have been using Paypal for at least 5 years. I do a small volume of business. On more than one occasion I have written/spoken to Paypal reps about making it easier for buyers to use a balance or bank transfers to pay me because I do not accept credit cards. As a seller I told them it was confusing for the buyer. I was completely ignored. Now I read question #13 "community Town Hall Meeting of Sep.16" that the policy change was driven by the community of Power sellers. I had an ad pulled yesterday because I requested either Balance or Bank Transfers and NO CREDIT CARDS. I was told I can longer do that and that I had to accept a credit card if it came through. This is ridiculous Why have a personal account if it can't function as one.And since this directly effect Personal accounts why didn't Paypal consider our input and then not even tell us about it until an add gets pulled. It a shame they are the only game in town.

Personal accounts are intended for Personal Use.
If you wish to receive PayPal payments for eBay transactions then you must use a Premier or Business account.

The PayPal policy update states...

Notice Date: July 14, 2005
Effective Date: August 19, 2005

Beginning August 19, 2005, if you sell on eBay and offer PayPal, your PayPal account must accept all forms of payment including payments made via credit card, regardless of whether you display the PayPal logo with credit card icons. You must have a Premier or Business PayPal Account or be willing to upgrade from a Personal PayPal Account to a Premier or Business Account if you receive a credit card payment.

You may not communicate to eBay buyers (e.g. via your eBay item description) that you only accept, or will not accept, specific forms of PayPal payment.

So basically, if you're selling on Ebay and say you accept paypal, then you have to accept everything including credit cards. And yes, this does force you to upgrade to Premier. You cannot have a Personal account and say you accept Paypal , then not accept credit cards. With this rule in effect, a paypal personal account does you absolutely zilch if you're selling on ebay.
