WSJ thoughts on the upcoming Super Majority

Though I'm not a big fan of absolute power either way (i.e. Democrat president+congress or Republican president+congress), I don't sympathize with conservatives one iota over a possible "Super Majority". The Republicans reigned supreme for 6 of the past 8 years. Personally, I relish the opportunity to at least re-balance the Supreme Court after Bush's conservative stack job.

- Medicare for all. When HillaryCare cratered in 1994, the Democrats concluded they had overreached, so they carved up the old agenda into smaller incremental steps, such as Schip for children. A strongly Democratic Congress is now likely to lay the final flagstones on the path to government-run health insurance from cradle to grave.
Interesting S-CHIP related news today. After only 7 months, Hawaii is scrapping it's universal healthcare for children program:
Hawaii ending universal child health care

HONOLULU – Hawaii is dropping the only state universal child health care program in the country just seven months after it launched.

Gov. Linda Lingle's administration cited budget shortfalls and other available health care options for eliminating funding for the program. A state official said families were dropping private coverage so their children would be eligible for the subsidized plan.
If you'll recall Bush and the GOP were greatly vilified in blocking a large expansion of the federal S-CHIP program that would have greatly increased the income limits, well into "middle-class" range, to provide insurance for kids that didn't have any. One of the arguments against the change made by the GOP was one of the main reasons cited for the implosion of the Hawaii program... that parents would drop kids from their plans so the government plan would then pay to cover them instead.

Interesting article. I believe it is true and we as a nation will be forever changed. I do not see all the change as good change.

Tax and more tax to pay for programs. Government involvement in everything. It is one thing to have a majority but my concern is that the leadership does not represent the people. Even moderate Dems would say that Obama, Polosi, Reed etc are far left. I believe we do best when we are in the center and can work together. Even if we are not working together at least it is good to have debate and have both sides represented.

I stoped reading after the first paragraph. Not all Democrats are Liberals, and anyone that assumes that isn't worth reading.

True, but if you vote for Obama, your ARE voting for a liberal. In fact, I can't think of another Senator more liberal than Obama (Biden is close though).

I also don't go in for the doom and gloom from either side. I am looking forward to my vote on Nov 4th, then into the office for a full day of work and then home to watch a few hours of election returns after the kids go to sleep.....and then bed and back to work.....rinse. repeat.

I will be amazed if we end up with a Democrat Super-majority (I am seldom amazed).
