Wrapped gifts in carry on

So we leave on Dec 16th for our cruise - flying from Buffalo to San Juan. I am hopefully planning on packing the 'important' gifts already wrapped in our carry on - no liquids or such.

Wondering if I'm going to have issues going through security with them already wrapped?? Anyone have experience with this??

I have brought wrapped gifts in my carry on before and been ok. Just be advised if they do wish to inspect further, they can ask you to unwrap them.

Absolutely correct, but they will do the unwrapping. Once your baggage has been selected for further examination, you are not allowed to touch it until they are done. Metal objects or something in a metal case is likely to warrant further inspection. On one trip my daughter's metal pencil crayon case triggered an inspection and another time my other daughter's mini-flashlight looked like a bullet on the xray.

Just be prepared for tham to unwrap them if they choose to.

I would go with gift boxes or gift bags. I would assume they will be unwrapped if anything looks undertermined in the contents. And the travellers behind you will be less than pleased that you wrapped all of the gifts for security to unwrap.

We're driving and I just called US customs and border security yesterday to check on this so not sure how it applies to checked baggage, but I was told to leave everything unwrapped.

If they choose to do further inspection, they don't want to have to mess around about it. It's a pain because we're arriving in FL on Xmas Eve and I'll have to do my wrapping then. Fortunately it's not a lot, but still one more thing.
