I just check on the cost of our flight from Greensboro, NC to Orlando. When we bough the tix in May we spent $220 (and I was angry it was that much). Delta now has that same flight listed for $670!!!!

Wow. Didn't take long for the crunch to get around did it?

that almost always happens. we brought our tix in may for our oct trip, from boston to orlando non stop, paid $330 total for me and wife, now they are $980.
for our trip in april, we brought our tix in dec for about $450 total(bos-orl direct), then in march the price went up to over $1500 for the same tics.

We live near G'boro. Much cheaper to fly SWA out of Raleigh. 4 of us going RT for $377 on Saturday. I'll drive the extra 1 1/2 hours to pay that much less.

Generally at this point (1 month prior to your trip) airfares start a steady climb. They are hoping that business travelers like me will have to buy the walk up fares.

heya Hokiefan! Unfortunately for a 5:25am flight, a 2 hour drive for me is not worth saving $50 or so hahhahahaha! I live the same distance from GSO as I do from Charlotte andit always amazes me that Charlotte is so much more expensive. If The flight weren't so early in the am, we would've done southwest out of Raliegh like you.

I had to change my flight on Song in Dec going home to Boston this morning and was sure the fare was going to bankrupt me. But, it was only $89...about $30 more than I paid for the earlier flight. Thank heaven it didn't cost more. But my flight to MCO is incredibly high now and the flight I was returning on had more than doubled.

I got my flights last weekend Greensboro to Orlando for $118-This is for our October trip. Can't imagine now-Raleigh is 3 hours for me-Greensboro only 1 1/2 hours. Now if I can afford the gas to drive to Greensboro.

I guess I'm in the minority because I just booked non-stops from PIT to MCO on USairways last night for $121 (taxes and fees included). Great fare and much cheaper than Southwest!

Last night AirTran was in the $115 range for mid Dec. Hope the airlines don't raise the rates dramatically in response to the suggested fuel price hike, or if they do it's a blip on the radar.

I paid $180 for our tickets out of G-boro to Orlando in Dec. SWA is roughly the same so it didn't make sense to drive to Raleigh. I'm glad Delta gave us such a great rate. :cool1:

I'm trying to decide if I should buy for my February 2006 trip, JFK-MCO. Prices have been $158 on Song, plus tax, which is their standard non-sale lowest price on that route. I've been holding out for a sale, but today tix are now $168. Wondering if I should just buy now. I thought about buying yesterday (when they were still $79) and I didn't, now I'm kicking myself.

What do you all think? Trip is still months away, think prices might stabilize in a couple months?

I just read a couple of speculative stories on airfare increase and read this quote in one:

"Travel expert Terry Trippler says look for fare hikes as early as this weekend, 'if we don't see a substantial airfare increase, we're going to see a substantial decrease in the number of airlines.' "

And another that speculated that fuel increases could be the death blow to airlines like Delta already dealing with banktrupcy. Delta was probably already filing in October. So maybe I shouldn't be booking on Delta at all.

Not sure what to do. I feel like I'm gambling with either option I take.

About 3 weeks ago I purchased a "Ding" airfare on Southwest from Raleigh, NC to Orlando for $32 each way per adult. For the two of use after taxes the cost was roughly $160 total round trip for both of us - cheaper than driving!

We almost cancelled our October trip yesterday b/c of airline ticket prices. We ended up switching a couple of dates around and made it work. We're flying for $205/person. We'll end up having to take the kids out of school two days and I really hate to do it this early in the year, but hopefully the teachers will be okay with it, they usually are.
