I didn't know the number until today, but families within our church have been affected by 31 deaths since the end of October! Some totally unexpected, some expected, but still shocking. It seemed like we had had quite a few, but the number was shocking!
Last week, one of our associate pastors said on facebook he had 6 funerals to attend/officiate at 6 funerals over 4 days. After that, a member, a SS teacher, active (5k,marathon) runner went out to run, had a heart attack and died instantly - witnesses saw him go down, stopped to help, call 911 - one of the witnesses was a doctor who was there immediately.
Another was a 15 year old, who had muscular dystrophy - he was out with his mom, had a heart attack on Monday, immediately was placed on life support until he died on Thursday. A friend's mom died yesterday - she had been in the hospital, but was improving. In her late 50's.
Eerily, last Sunday was our Veteran's Day service - we had flag bearers from each branch of the armed services during our early and late am service - the runner was one of them, and another (quite elderly, he had assistance during the service) passed away on Tuesday.
Hug your families and friends - love on them, appreciate them, because we have no promise of tomorrow!
