In passing a few minutes ago while showing DH my SS gifts I mentioned would you mind if I saved to buy a machine that I can make my own letters with - I used the logic of I wouldn't have to buy any more letter stickers (Ya right!) which can be costly and if you are missing one you have to buy another whole package.

He said sure if you think it will help you out why not. He didn't ask how much the machine was of course.

I have to go scour the Sunday paper now and look for the Michael's coupon.

I know Michaels doesn't sell Quickcutz but, which should I get a Sizzix or a QuickCutzs? Oh the agony of making this decision alone please help me decide.

Which do you think is more cost affective. I noticed that Sizzix is coming out with smaller letters similar to the Quickcutz. I know the Sizzix is bigger but is it better? I have never used either one.

Please give me all the good and the ugly.

Spinning swears by her quickutz , but I can't resist the 50 % off coupon from Michaels . I'm crossing my fingers that I can convince Marc as easily as you convinced your hubby.;) ( wish me luck ). I also decided on the sizzix because of the new stuff coming out and the fact that with the help of the new adapter I will be able to use brass stencils for embossing in it. I also have more access to sizzix dies than quickutz here. Plus , I am going to a crop next month where I can quickutz to my hearts content . Also got a add today from LSS that they would have it available for Friday crops ( 2.50 for crops and free use of tools ). I would look at them both and see which one you think you would buy more dies for. I have never seen the actual quickutz in the store and our LSS store will only preorder with a payed in full reciept.

Are you a HOME scrapper
or a travelling scrapper!
I think that makes a HUGE difference-

I couldn't resist the Mike's coupon either so I went with sizzix -
and I'm not sure but I don't think you can do as much with quickutz in the way of non letter dies (I don't think you can do the bigger stuff) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Sizzix Tag cutter!

AHH yes the sizzix quickutz debate!
I struggled with it for a long time. Both are very costly so it is good to really think about this purchase.
The reason I went with the quickutz.

Main reason was size and portable. I don't have a cropping area and i really don't see one in my near future so that was the strongest reason. It is very small and slides right into my bag
I also like the actual cutting surface better. It is metal on metal with a small piece of foam mounted on the diecut. I found that many of the sizzix if used a lot left cuts in the cutting board.
Also you need to look at how you will use it. If it is for mainly letters then quickutz is wonderful, they have 2 sizes and so many fonts.
If you like the larger die cuts then you will need to go with the sizzix.
There are several online stores to buy the quickutz and get some good deals. Also talk to you LSS she may actually offer a discount too.
I did hear that Michael's may carry the quickutz next year. It has to go main stream soon to keep up!
I am very pleased with mine! I don't use a lot of die cuts I love the stars, hearts and flowers I bought ( I used all of this on the last swap) I plan to get a few more. But mainly I want it for the letters. It just adds something more than stickers! Plus I find if I am doing more than one spread it carries the theme to the next page!
Nicki I think I might try one of my brass embossing plates in it! I have several small ones!

If you have anymore ??? let me know! I can also send you some samples! Words etc...

Have you had a chance to use both systems? I'm not very familiar with either one, but when I started scrapping, a friend let me use her various Fiskar scissors. I like them better than the small CM ones I received. I know my LSStores have some letter systems to try. I don't know which one I tried, but it was hard for me to punch. My husband was willing to buy it if I liked it, but I didn't like it :(. Just a thought ...

I have a sizzix and really like it a lot. The weight doesn't bother me because I have a scrapping room. Storage of the dies was a challenge until I figured out a system, especially for the alphabets. But I love have so many dies to choose from in a variety of sizes. And I'm really excited about the new fonts they're coming out with next month. Each die will have 4 letters on it - upper & lower regular and upper & lower shadow.

Check out the fonts on both websites, I have the sizzix and I do really like it, but the fonts on the QuickKutz are stunning = of course the downside of that is that you will want to buy them all!

The new Sizzlets look very good, I really want the cursive one, and the price is not too bad considering you are getting a full set.

I've also heard that you can use a QK die in a Sizzix machine if you stack up 3 cutting mats, but I haven't tried it yet.

I have used both machines, the QK has nicer fonts (imho) and they are mostly smaller which seems to work better for me. (I seem to like a long title!), BUT, the sizzix is much easier to operate - I find squeezing the QK very difficult and I don't have any arthritis etc, if you did it would be impossible I think.

If you travel to crops, then the QK is probably better.

There are additional dies available for both systems. The Sizzix offers the possibility of a larger die, but to be honest, I very rarely use any other dies. I have the tags, but they are too small, and a very nice double heart which gets occassional use, and that 's about it.

As you can see, there are pluses and minuses to both - I think the answer is you need to own them both (and all the alphabet sets too!)

I bought my sizzix well before Quickutz came out so I did not have to decide which one to get and now that they are making the mini dies which look like quickutz i will still be able to have different fonts and sizes. The lure of the 50% off coupons makes the cost a little cheaper too!

I also love my sizzix but I have never used a quickutz.

Robin, would you mind sharing your system for storing/organizing your dies? I could really use some help with that. Thanks so much!

I know you didn't ask me but I'm going to tell you anyways

I went to Staples and bought an IRIS 6 drawer cart for 14.99
I have one drawer for my lollipop alphabets and those liitle stacks of sizzix paper,
another drawer for all the Shadow alpha dies (I'm only missing 3 now!)
and Another drawer for other dies -
with plenty of room to spare!
hth's someone!

Patty,

That's an awesome solution! Thanks for sharing! My problem is that I have two of those packed full of all my rubber stamps. Well DH build really nice shelves in our dining room so that I could have a scrapbook room. His goal was for me to get it organized and looking nice. That means no more roll carts out in the room or those big crates. I just do not know how to organize my sizzix dies or lots of other stuff for that matter on the shelves. I need help!!!

Measuring the depth of your shelf -
going to Mikes when They have 50% off baskets (this week I think) and buying some preety wicker ones that you can put on the shelf! Then put the sizzix dies in those!
;)

Hi Laura,
well I broke down tonight and brought the sizzix machine. I will be getting the dies when I can . Right now I am just looking at my shiny new red toy and just lovin the fact that I got it ! It was 40.00 with the 50% off coupon from Michaels. I have a 40% off coupon for AC Moore so my next purchase will be a small die. I can't wait to get the adapter and try it out with my brass templates . Not to mention the new stuff Sizzix is coming out with . Let me know what you decide. Happy shopping.

That's what I did, bought the iris drawers. I have two that are 6 drawer and another that's 4 drawer. I originally had all my dies, including alpha/numbers in them. But I found the drawers to be heavy, hard to open, difficult to get to the dies at the back, and worried that the whole thing would tip over when I had the top drawers open. The way I have it now, only my "picture" dies - red, yellow, green - are in the two large drawers. And I have another storage container with all my blue dies in it sitting on a shelf. I tend to make lots of alpha cuts at one time then put them away for a while. But I use all the rest on a regular basis so want them closer at hand. So far this system is working well for me.

Okay I've decided to get the Sizzix - in fact I think I'm going to go get it at lunch time today.

But, now my delima is which font should I get? I really like the shadow one and if I use a 50% coupon I can take the price but, not with out the coupon.

Which fonts do you prefer?

Thanks for your assistance,

YA for you!!!!!

Well I have the shadows - and I haven't even used them once yet! How bad is that! They are LARGE letters so you need a SHORT title!

I have used the lolipop ones a lot but I have had them longer.

I think you should get something other than those two so when we get together and crop - we can swap letters LOL

is there anything else???

lets see at www.creativexpress.com
--------where shadows are 30%off and if you have never ordered there before I think you get another 15% off!!!!

I have all the sizzix alphabets. I have used the fun serif(love this font) the most and then the lollipop and the shadows would be third. That is the order I purchased them in, so maybe that is why I use them in that order. LOL I cannot wait for the script!
