I bought Breyer's Ice Cream when I went grocery shopping today. I opened the package and while opening it, I noticed that it looked "thinner" than it did in the past. I looked at the lable and the HALF GALLON of ice cream has turned into 1.75 Quarts!. I bought it as "buy one, get one free" but I thought I was actually buying a half gallon of ice cream. When did this happen??

It's been a while since they changed the packaging, don't remember exactly when- at least 6 months?

They have been that size for awhile.:guilty: I only buy it when it is on sale.

I am so surprised my dh didn't notice this. He is an ice cream junkie and buys Breyers. I just told him this and he shook his head and said, oohhh, just not right. Thank you for informing us!

Breyers is my all time fav. ice cream.

What I don't get is how can it be over $5 at the grocery store and $2.50 at Super Wal-Mart or Super Target??? :confused3 I have no problem buying it for $2.50-$3 but over $5????

I only buy ice cream when it is buy one, get one, unless it is half price. What is more over priced than ice cream? Lately its been Edy's, Turkey Hill and Hood. DS #3 worked the "line" at Hood when he was in college. I know that they make other brands besides Hood. I can't remember what though.

Yep, we buy ice cream at "buy one get one" Thats the only time its really worth it!

One of the big name mayonaise companies has reduced the size from 32 ounces to 30 ounces.... I noticed as soon as I picked it up.. Probably Hellman's as that is what we usually buy.

We like Miracle Whip. I am going to start noticing again. Not that it will change anything. If you need Miracle Whip, you need Miracle Whip.

Breyer's yogurt also is now in these little wimpy 6oz containers (formerly 8oz), for the same price of course.

:scared: Give me the hellmans only! I remember when my mom bought miracle whip by accident when I was a kid. Ick!

It has been quite a while I would say at least a year. Along those lines remember when coffee was actually a pound or 3 pounds in a can? They do it to paper products by making them slightly shorter or narrower.

I just checked my Miracle Whip. 32 Ounces!! I also checked the Hellman's that DS#2 likes, 30 ounces. Give me MW only!! ;)

We think we are getting the same amount at the same price, yet we are actually getting less for the same price. DH calls it a 'back door price increase".

My favorite is the Scott toilet paper 1000 sheet rolls. The rolls still have 1000 sheets, but each sheet is smaller in size than it used to be.

I believe this is a sneaky retail practice that is here to stay.

Yeah. Turkey Hill changed their packaging size too, over a year ago. I have even noticed that some of the varieties(no sugar) are down to 48 ounces.

Yep..its been changed at least a year if not two years. I don't thibk all the companies changed at the same time but I think I saw on the Today show or somewhere at least that long ago about the changes.

If they just left the size alone and charged us more, I would have much more respect for them. :sad2:

The mysterious shrinking package has been around for a while. 60 Minutes did a piece on it years and years ago. Remember a pound of coffee? Hasn't been a pound for a long time. Your potato chip bag is the same size...but with less chips. Paper towel rolls have been losing sheets little by little. I could go on forever. Of course this is all done without publicity. One thing never changes though...the price never shrinks, just the product!

YUP - it's been this way for a looong time.

I love the potato chip bag - when you open a bag it looks just over half full! That's a lot of extra space - it was designed just so we wouldn't notice the net weight is way down from years ago.

I'm surprised they didn't start using a strip of heavier plastic in the bottom seal of the bag to complete the illusion.

As long as we keep buying everything, the companies will keep short changing us because we act like we don't care.
