I recently came accross some papers we still have from when we sailed on a 4 day cruise soon after 9-11. It was the first time we encountered discounts for rebooking while on-board.
We signed up for the very first sailing of the 7 night Western Caribbean Cruise (May 11, 2002 sail date).
We had a Cat 6 (Deluxe with Verandah) for a rate of $2,345.54 (for two adults and includes insurance). We also had the $200 on-board credit to boot.
Currently, if you book for May 7th of 2005 for the 7 night Western, the current quote for the same thing is $4,162.
Of course like I said, that was just after 9-11 so everyone in the travel business was offering discounts to get passengers, and DCL wasn't quite as popular as it has become.
But in the end, we had to cancel the cruise (wife got pregnant and was going to be 1 week "too pregnant" to be allowed passage).
