Wow, hotel in Rome crazy expensive

I am trying to plan for my cruise on 6-23. The hotel at Rome is crazy expensive now. Is anyone seeing that? What do you guys think about getting a hotel outside the city and travel in? This is getting so crazy I am considering going to visit Croatia for a few days instead of Rome

it's actually way better than barcelona. i'm budgeting about $200 - $250 for 2 adults and 2 children (1 room). Am finding several options - mind you - i'm not staying 1 block from the Colosseum. We are about a 15 minute - 20 minute walk from several tourist sights. i've been using booking.com

i think it was Rick Steves' podcast I was listening too - but another idea is to look into rooms at a convent. seriously.

We got an AirBnB and we were able to get a 4 bedroom apartment for the same price as a regular hotel room. (We are 4 adults and 1 child.) Have you thought about going that route?
