FYI I just booked the treasure for August 2026 and got 50% off my deposit even though I was using a placeholder. The agent at DCL did not mention it and when he told me how much they were charging my card I thought the number was low. Got off the phone and did the math lol. Anyone else with this experience?

I believe that's standard with a placeholder for cruises 7 nights or longer? 10% off and only a 10% deposit

A traveling agent I follow on FB also reported that some summer 2026 cruises were coming in with a 50% deposit. She was surprised.

That was part of your placeholder, it's a 10% deposit (instead of the usual 20%) on cruises of 7+ nights.

DCL has had an offer of half off the standard deposit for "select" cruises embarking after June 16, 2025 through May 31, 2026 -- and it wouldn't surprise me if that was extended to the new itineraries which weren't available at the time the offer came out. It usually won't stack with a placeholder, though.

Should have been 870 paid 435

Sorry, the numbers don't mean anything without the break-down. Deposit is a % of the fare, not the total cost (so excluding taxes and fees). Just a quick peek at Aug. 2026 Treasure cruises and it looks like that could be about right, depending on category and number of passengers.

870/2=435. That tracks correctly to me if 870 was what 20% would have been.

Just remember as has been pointed out on another thread, you still have to pay the other 435. You just have longer to do it.

Exactly! It doesn't mean you don't have to pay the full deposit, just that it's being deferred. I guess it is a benefit for some people. I'd rather pay it all at one time and not have to worry about it. It makes the balance of the cruise fare seem lower when that's due! 🤣

Yes I get that I need to pay it but here’s the benefit to the reduced deposit that money sits in my bank account earning interest for me and not Disney!!!

It's a benefit if you have to cancel and all you lose is the deposit or if you cancel because a better GT rate came out and you only lose the deposit. If you are booking far in advance and don't want to commit, but want to book just in case it's also an advantage.

Yep I booked a back to back cruise on the Wonder to Alaska, had one placeholder to use, and was pleasantly surprised that my second room without a placeholder qualified for the 10% deposit special.

Are you sure? I thought people have reported losing the full 20% even though what they paid as deposit was 10%.
