Last March I booked a family suite for $69/a night. I just looked it up and it's $200 for next March! While it was worth maybe $100/night, I'd never pay $200!

In August 2012 I booked a C2 room. Four Queen beds and a sleeper sofa.
Arriving late January 2013, on Monday and leaving on Sat.
Week nights are $129 and Friday is $149.
Add tax and other fees and there ya go....

This will be our first trip not staying on-site. My travel group has grown to 6. With Disney's rule of 5 per room, it makes on-site way too costly.

Are you going in the last week of March? Easter is early in 2013, and that's the first of Easter Weeks. In 2012, Easter was a week later, which left March in the clear.

I've noticed that rates at DS&I are always lowest when they first come avaliable (usually 9-11 months in advance). The same room type for the same dates will often double as the date getting closer. If you can book that far in advance you really save some $$.

I think you're seeing their 'high season' pricing. I booked the suite with 4 queens Sunday - Wednesday of our Spring Break this last year (2012) for $99/ night, but when I looked at the very next (Thursday) night, it went up to $209! I think they started their Spring Break pricing a little later than they could have last year. I looked at March for 2013 and realized that they corrected that mistake for next year and have implemented the high prices earlier.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I booked a few nights in a 2 queens + sofabed suite for $79/night (in mid-September 2013). So, I think their base prices haven't gone up much.

Ditto! With DI&S the earlier you book the better. I've never seen their rates go down, only up. I book as soon as my dates open for them! For this past September we paid $119 for a C2 family suite!

Do they charge first night or deposit when you make the reservation? Thinking of making a ressie for Oct of next year but don't want to pay right now.

I have stayed at the Desert Inn 4 times now, I love it there. In the past when I have booked I was not charged. But I was charged a deposit 24 hours before our stay, the charge was the cost of 1 night. Hope this helps.

I got a room there for January 2013 for $59 a night! I booked this past summer!

oh good to know. I was looking at the first week of march, not that we're going again but I was curious LOL!

No. They do require a credit card to book the room but they dont make a charge til the day before your arrival. Then they charge the first nights fee. They have a 48 hour cancellation policy.
