for college textbook savings! We got all of DD's textbooks for next semester on Amazon.. 5 books for a total of..... $43.85!!!!! and that includes the shipping costs! At the college bookstore, 1 of the books was listed for $200.00!!! I didn't even check the others prices! Last semester, before I realized that we could order them from Amazon, we paid $750.00 for all her books! Please, if you have college age kids, check out Amazon! We got 1 of the books (used) for .01 cent! I feel great!!!!

I got DS's books there last semester. Unfortunately, all of the books he needed were new editions, so I couldn't buy used. But, I still saved some money because they were a little cheaper than the college bookstore, and I didn't have to pay sales tax.

Wow, great deal! Chegg.com is a good online book rental site and I've used textbooks.com too. I'll have to try Amazon first this semester.

I just bought mine today too, I have a bunch of professional books so I did some on amazon and some on half.com. I can use ebates at half.com for 4% back! I cannot buy textbooks at regular bookstores anymore, you can save so much, even on new books buying them online!

I've also used half.com, but that's AWESOME, all those books for $43. College textbooks are SO overpriced!

Wish Amazon had existed when I was in school!

One of my grad school textbooks was at the local library though and I checked it out. The quarter was 12 weeks long and the library let me renew twice x 3 weeks, for a total of 9 weeks. The book was $125 new and I figured even at .25 per day for 21 days, I would still only pay $5.25. So I did that and saved myself! :rotfl2:

I've been buying my grad school books @ Amazon too and have saved a literal fortune over the bookstore costs. Love it!

With that price difference, it seems very likely that there's a difference in the edition/publishing date. Please make sure that the prof doesn't care. Though the prof probably DOES care, as there can be differences in pages, and even information, from edition to edition.

It's worth be SURE about this now, so you know if you're going to be putting out the extra in a few weeks.

We also had to buy DS19 high school books. We have been using Amazon, Textbooks, Alibris, half and lately I have even gotten a few good deals on Borders and B&N with their coupons.
Don't forget to relist them when you are done. You can sell them to others to help recoup some of the expense also. Keep track of how much you paid for them on a spread sheet and sold price. You will be surprised sometimes the prices bottom out but other times I have actually made money. :thumbsup2Good Luck.

We've bought used books from www.bn.com and amazon. Also, the university bookstore. My daughters university seems to require strange variations of a text that makes it difficult to buy at a discount. This is her first year and we are learning as we go.

You likely bought early editions if the prices were that good. For some classes this will be fine, but for other classes this could cause a problem (I'm thinking especially for the sciences). Make sure your DD checks with her professors. I always bought earlier editions (after checking that this would be ok), but usually no more than one edition back.

We just had a go-round with Amazon. One of DD's classes did not post the textbooks until a few days before classes started, so I bought them from Amazon, new with 2 day shipping. The day before we got them, she had to make a schedule change and she ordered her books for the new class through the bookstore.

When the books arrived from Amazon for the class she dropped, I left them in the box and put a return label on them. I expected to pay return shipping, but Amazon gave me about a $60 credit on this $146 order. Please understand, we DID NOT use the books! The restocking fees were over 50%! I called customer service and they actually gave me back the rest of my money, but I will be very careful about buying textbooks from Amazon in the future. Or any books, I guess!

I wonder how long before we can get textbooks on Kindle?

Could you imagine just downloading the textbooks ytou need, no heavy backpacks, fewer trees killed for paper?

I remember when I was in nursing school eons ago, we had a med surg textbook that was HUGE and so heavy.

I hated lugging that thing around.

Great savings OP! Good for you!

As far as I know (and from my and hubby's background, we know a lot), there's no restocking fee that amazon charges. However, if they were fulfilled by amazon but actually sold by a separate seller, that could have been the seller's policy.

In the future when returning to amazon, contact them first! Much easier that way, especially since the return site isn't always the place they shipped from. Easier on the employees if they know what is going on when they receive an item back.

It's up to the publishers! (and, not textbook-related, sometimes the authors, like JK Rowling)
