Just got my request accepted on Priceline for $22! That's what we were going to pay with the best discounts we could find on a premium, so I thought that I'd give it a shot on priceline with thier big rental car sale, and we got it! $427 total for 2 weeks. Now we don't have to worry about the car being six passenger or not, or being crowded in the car.

we have gotten so many fantastic deals on this trip, it's unbelievable. $16 airfare, $22 van rental... I'm not sure how to feel in light of all the tradgedy happening around the country right now :confused3

Which company did you get it through??

Alamo. The same company we had our original ressies through. Their best on-line rate for a mini-van was almost $400 per week, so this is about half-price. Now I wish I had put in $20/day instead, but I shouldn't be greedy. :)

Good for you! That's a great rate, especially that airfare. I'm going to see if Priceline will be lower than my already low midsize rate for November too.

Just remember, it is possible to be happy for yourself while feeling the pain of others going through tragedy. You go have a great time and enjoy those great deals, who knows when prices will be that low again!!

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of priceline for our rental car in Feb. Will have to check it out. Thanks!

What I want to know is how on earth did you get $16 airfare??

How do you know what company you will get. I only use the airport rental agencies. Will I have to travel to thrifty off the airport? How many times have you used them?

$16 airfare??!! I would love to know also how you got this terrific deal!! I was also wondering how priceline works. I have never done that before, but sounds like a great bargain. Any information would be GREATLY appreciated. THANKS!! :wave2:

I think the PPs $16 airfare was a TravelZoo top 20 deal. They sell out in minutes of being published.

As for priceline, you will not know which company you get until you pay. No cancelling if you don't like the company. It's a chance some people are willing to take to save some $$.

My low rental price is with Thrifty right now (I hear the shuttle is very good and quick). If Priceline can beat it, I'll do it. We also used Priceline for a hotel inJan and it worked out great. Hotel with free breakfast, pool, etc. for $35 (and we got upgraded to a suite - Nice).

Happy planning all!!

We got the $16 airfare through the www.travelzoo.com special on Transmeridian airways. It was one of those things that poped up and sold out in a few hours, I just happened to be on the computer at the right time and got it. Prior to that we were going to drive- what a blessing that we aren't now! :earseek:

To get the best rates on priceline you have to take a chance with the company, and be a little flexible, but we are flying in early Saturday morning (10:30) so I figured that a little messing around getting the car wouldn't be a big deal, not with saving that kind of money. Just put in a bid low enough that you won't care what company it is. I think that they only deal with major brand companies anyway. Alamo is on-terminal at Sanford, so we did well.

Congrats..that's a great price. I've never seen the $16 air on travelzoo..but then it's prob airlines we don't have, so I skip over them:). You did good!

Travelzoon justs PUBLISHED the fare...it was actually offered through www.vacationexpress.com in honor of the company's 16th birthday. I also got this deal, and when it all worked out with taxes and airport fees it came to $56/RT. I got SIX tickets at $336 -- $70 less than the two tickets I had previously purchased for DH and I to go next week, AND the whole family (my parents, brother and DD also get to go now!!).

I understand that..I guess I just zoomed over it. We don't have that airline here in Albany. It's a great deal!

We are actually flying out of Syracuse, NY to get this rate. So not too far from you. 3.5 hours maybe? We drive that way a lot from CT to my inlaws in the Watertown area. It' a 5 hour drive to Syracuse, but well worth it for the price, and much better than 48 hours in the car with a 13 month old!

We also got a good deal on a park/fly hotel, $69 for the night in Syracuse, w/shuttle to the airport and parking for the 2 weeks we will be gone. Not too bad I guess, I wanted to get a little cheaper, but most hotels start thier shuttle at 7:00 am, and our flight is at 7:40, so no go. We had to get this one that has 24 hr shuttle service.

It's less than three, but we do the $49 each way with Southwest. By the time we added leaving the car and gas, 15 minutes away works for us LOL!
