Would your family do this?

We stayed at the Waldorf for 1 night our last trip in Feb before moving to BWV. I absolutely loved the hotel and hope to stay there again. Our next visit is in Sept and I have found a good deal on a room there for 2 nights before checking into BWV. I mentioned this to my DH and DS11. They both replied "No way! We have to stay at ASMO" They both agree that the best warm and fuzzy Disney feeling comes from the ASMo and it's not a proper WDW vacation unless you spend at least one night there!! So, I guess I'm outnumbered. We'll be staying at ASMo Would anyone else's family prefer a value over a super deluxe hotel??

No. I don't have to be in a Disney hotel to love my Disney trip. The beds in the values suck. They are hard as a rock. I would much rather stay at the nicer hotel any day of the week.

No we would not stay in a value over a deluxe. My kids don't care for the look of the value resorts and have never asked to stay in one.

But that's my family. Everyone is different and that's okay.

My kids (ds 10, b/g twins 7) would not want any part of the Waldorf. We love POP, we booked AOA (Nemo suite) for our next trip in Dec. they are are excited but a little apprehensive about staying somewhere other than POP. They are comforted by the fact that we can walk to POP if we want to. LOL!!! I wanted to do a split stay (BLT) and then thought about it, they are happy at a value (and so am I) if I was not then a change would have to be made after all they are not paying for it DH is, as long as he is happy too, its all good! It's Disney!!!!!

When my girls were younger, they would absolutely have preferred a value over anything deluxe but now that they are older....they would never pass up a deluxe for a value.

I would not stay at an off-site hotel. Even if its deluxe. No way no how. I'm with your family, i'd stay at ASMo. I happen to love that resort. My fave is Pop thou.

I cannot imagine staying off-site because you dont get EMH and buses dont run constantly like they do at Disney resorts. So convenient. Plus, we use the resort to sleep and shower. Most of the time we're at the parks. I cannot justify spending extra $$$ for a deluxe for my DS13 and I. Im so with your family on this one.

I love the value resorts. Have yet to have a bad night's sleep at any of them!! I'm headed back to Music in a month, for 4 nights, then over to AoA-LM for 2 nights. And I own at BLT and BWV, so I also like and enjoy a more upscale experience!!!

It is what it is..no way you can make a comparison. But for me?? I would rather be at a value, onsite, then a deluxe, offsite.

I have never found the value beds to be hard, small yes, but not hard. I've stayed at all three levels and personally have no problem with any of them. I base my choice of money/location/convenience/touring plans so I'm pretty flexible.

I've done both onsite and off site stays at other hotels before checking in to my main resort, and honestly it depends on the plans.

I would not plan any Disney activities if I was staying offsite because parking and not having the convenience of hopping back and forth between room and parks would take away the relaxing Disney atmosphere. I like being able to just get on a bus and start my day and then just go. If I get tired or hot or need a rest, or need to drop off or grab stuff, it's just a short bus back and then once ready I just head out again.

If I was planning offsite activities or just planning to hang at the resort then staying offsite at a better hotel would win out.

Well if that's what my family wanted I'd go for it. It's the age. The 12 year old i took to Pop loved it more than a 5 star resort we stayed at.

Since you are moving on site and its only a couple nights I would definitely take the Waldorf over the values. If they are even remotely similar in price you would be crazy to pay the same for a value.

Dont forget that with offsite you dont get EMH or disney buses. Thats somethign to consider. And i would hardly call someone crazy for making that decision. Many of us prefer values over offsite deluxe, does that mean we're crazy?? Thats highly insulting to be honest.

No matter what the theming, hubby would NEVER choose a double bed over a queen or king. When my kids were younger, some of them always chose tradition over anything else, so if we'd stayed at ASMO the first time, we'd have to stay there at least one night every time, or I'd hear about it.

Which I should remember when people are debating whether they should do offsite or on their first time. I tend to think offsite the first time is best, because then you can ramp things up later trips. Now I'm going to say that, with kids younger than twelve, you should start offsite, or they'll demand onsite every time. And definitely don't splurge on a deluxe the first time, or that's what your young traditionalists will demand from then on!

Anyhow, to get back on topic, mine would all pick an offsite deluxe hotel, but they're also mostly teenagers, so have a tad different perspective than an eleven-year-old.

I posed the hypothetical question to my 14 year old son and 11 year old daughter. They both said they would choose the Waldorf if the prices were similar & only for a night or 2 at the beginning or end of a longer trip. They love luxurious hotels, but would not want to stay there the entire length of time for an extended trip to Disney.

My first thought was no way, they'd way rather have a Deluxe off property than a Value on property....but being submersed in the magic is super important. The only Value we've tried was AoA last October for one night pre DVC because I just had to see it.

For a night or two they may choose a Value but not entire vacation.

See I don't mind the beds at the values at all. I need to stay on site and would rather pay for a value and spend the money in other ways.

My wife and I married at Disney and stayed a couple nights each at: Shades of Green, Waldorf and ASMu. Then we spent eight nights at the GF.

The Waldorf was our favorite, even though it's off-site. But we didn't have a problem with ASMu at all.

That said, I'd go with what makes the kids happy.

A vacation is just that "a vacation" and a time to indulge - if you have that choice go for quality every time! The whole "feel" of the resorts is just that "quality" - I myself love Beach Club Villas! Fabulous!

Totally agree....and I am a bit of a resort snob I would stay at a value onsite over a deluxe off site.

I'd go with tradition. There are plenty of other cities/vacations where a 5-star can be appreciated. For now, it sounds like the thing they like to do...you know they grow up so fast! Enjoy
