DD (just turned 3) is really into Beauty and the Beast. We had to track down the beast during our recent trip to WDW and soon as she seen him, she ran to him and wrapped her arms around him and hugged him as hard as she could.

She dressed as Belle for her family birthday party, we had to have her pic with Belle and the Beast screened on her birthday cake and she sat through the MGM, Beauty and the Beast performance twice without a peep. Actually don't think she even moved.

Just found out the stage show is coming to our hometown. It was just here, so I'm surprised. Its not until May so she'll actually be closer to 4 by then. Her birthday is the end of September.

I can only get tickets for a 7:30pm show though. Can get 1st row in orchestra. The afternoon performance tickets are all the way back in Q row. I don't think she'll be able to see well back there. I'm going to call in the AM . What do you guys think?

I think it's purely a judgement call based on your daughter's maturity. My daughter can usually be quiet through church if we take crayons, paper and stickers, but sometimes she just wants to talk and not be quiet. When it comes to princesses though, well she has princesses running through her brain 24/7 - she often asks out of the blue "Do you ever think of princesses?" to anyone and everyone.
I hadn't heard B&B was coming to town. My daughter will be 4 by then so maybe that's not a bad idea. She tends to be afraid of loud noise so at this point I wouldn't want to take her just because I'm sure I'd have a shaking, sobbing 3 year old in my lap from the minute they turned on the sound system!

I would agree that it really comes down to a judgement call on your part.

But if she's really that much into BATB, then I would say "Go For It".

My (then 3yo) was too rambuncious to sit all the way through "Wallas and Grommig" when we went to see that on a Saturday afternoon.

But when we took him to see "Cars", there were NO disciplanry issues (and it's a full 2 hour movie). He's been in love with "Cars" since then. He has already seen it in the theaters twelve times. His recent 4yo Birthday party was a "Cars" theme. We had just redecorated his room with a Disney theme just before the movie came out. Fortunately the colors were light blue and red, so some "Cars" posters fit in quite well. (Come to thing of it, I'm glad we did redecorate before the movie came out... now that I've seen all the cool stuff they have come out with for room decorations in a "Cars" theme, I could have EASILY gone over the top on it).

We took our 2.5 year old DD (now 5), and she was on the edge of her seat grinning from ear to ear throughout the entire show. To this day, she is typically a squirmer when it comes to sitting still for things like sitting through church, but for this show, she was captivated by the music, dancing, and all of the colorful characters on stage.

I took my older DD on her 3rd birthday. We had nose bleed seats. She is 7 now and remembers going and swears she still remembers it. She did enjoy it at the time.

Dare I admit it? I was sooooo tired that I had my eyes closed during the show and could have sworn I was snoozing on the couch while DD was watching the dvd on tv!!! LOL!!! It could have been the fact that I wasn't getting much sleep. I left my 1 yo DD at home with my Mom.

We had discount tickets and I feel it was worth it for the kids but I still think it was a lot of money for a movie "come to life.". Live performances are expensive to run so I don't feel bad paying $$ but I think that the B&B show at MGM is a shorter, almost as good, production and best of all included in the admission price.

Would I do it again? Yes, but another Disney Broadway Production instead.

I just say the Broadway Show last weekend in New York and it was th most awesome show!!! There were lots of young children there good and some not so good. If your daughter is mezmorized by this movie she will be fine.

We were in an old theatre and sat front mezzazine center stage and they were the perfect seats. (those are front balcony) I personally don't like orchestra because you dont get full view I love looking diagonally on and not having to turn my head all over. Not to mention that seems to be where the cast was always looking.

Have a wonderful time!!!

We took our 5 year old thought he loved it 2 weeks latter he was waking up every night with night mares about them chasing beast down with fire! go figure something I barley rember he is having night mares over.

Take Her, Take Her, Take Her!!! You wont regret it. We took our baby (DD16) for her 16th birthday present to NYC specifically for this play. WOW is all I can say. There were sooo many little girls there and I didnt notice any that werent intent on what was going on at the stage. I was saying the whole time that DD7 would love this, but it was a trip for dear sis only. I would love for the play to come to our town, but who knows if that would ever happen.

Thanks guys for all the input.

I bought the tickets today and I will be taking DD in May. I would love to make a trip to NYC one day to see the real Broadway production. I envy everyone who gets to do this.

THX again!

Good Morning ~ I know you'll have a magical time! We live in NC, however our hearts & family are in PGH, so I tried ticketmaster for more info on B&B, maybe we could plan a visit around their dates, but couldn't find anything? If you have a minute, could you let me know where you found the ticktes? Thanks!!! :goodvibes

We took our DD to "Annie" when it came to town last winter, she was 3.5 at that time. We talked about it A LOT to prepare her for what would happen: that it would be dark, that the music might get loud, etc.... that the characters wouldn't answer her if she called out to them, and that she needed to be very quiet (only whispers in my ear) whenever lights were out.

She remember the instructions and was just fine-- mesmerized, in fact.

OH-- and at the end of the first song, at LEAST 5 little girls yelled out "Hi Annie!" and every time they did "Tomorrow" it was practically a karaoke convention-- but, no harm, no foul-- everyone seemed to be loving it! It was a major highlight of the last year and she still talks about it.

I just did Beauty and the Beast this weekend for our local community theater. We did 3 shows and it was one of the most well received shows we've ever done. Tons and tons of children came and most were mesmerized by the production. If you have the opportunity to see it done professionally I say do it. You really will not regret it. I would just recommend a good nap as it is a long musical. I believe it will keep her attention and it'll be something you all can talk about for a long time. The costumes and the music are unforgettable.

edit- I just realized you already posted that you had the tickets. lol but before I saw that I had said

I agree it depends on the child. My oldest (8)has been going to shows, Broadway on Tour, community theatre, other on tour shows & the Nutcracker since she was one and has never been a problem. My middle has been to a few Sesame St live & Disney on Ice and 2 Community theatre shows and done fine. We had to leave one of the community theatre shows at intermission, but that's it. My youngest won't be going to anything more than a Sesame St Live/ Disney on Ice show for a while! lol She simply can't handle it.

Again a judgement call based on your DD. I took my DS3 to the show at MGM and he not only hated it, but fell asleep.

:rotfl:

omg i thought this was a post my mom made about me when i was three!!!

i saw BATB when i was 3, it was when it first came out. If shes as into BATB as you say she is, she'll be fine! Its amazing, really inspired me to get into Broadway its now my goal to be belle on broadway.

I dont know if where youre going they have booster seats but im sure she'll be fine depending on who is sitting in front of her. A theatre seating is usually on a slope so unless she has a large person in front of her she will probably be able so see just fine!

roliwpolieoliefan,

I think that it so depends on your child individually. :confused3

During the past year, our family was in London in March and saw the Mary Poppins that is now (or coming) on Broadway (it was really fabulous by the way) My son was 3 1/2 at the time. I had bought the CD (of the show, not the film-although he watched that as well). Well he was amazingly engaged and well behaved during the first act. I think that the intermission confused him a little and he began talking a little loudly during the second act... :guilty: ...DH removed him while DD (11) and I remained...We could hear him saying "I'll be good...I want to see Mary" on the way out... :sad2:

That being said I took my DD to see Annie Get Your Gun on Broadway when she was 4 1/2 and she was perfect for the entire show...I could see the people to our left visably shuddering when we sat down...but it was a matinee and she was truly better behaved than some of the adults around us... :smooth:

Next March, we plan to get tickets to a Saturday Matinee of Tarzan (a surprise holiday gift)-we'll give them t shirts and the CD to go with...I feel pretty confident at this point that he'll be fine (4 1/2)...DD would have been fine at a Disney Musical when she was three...I really do think it has to do with your child and of course what you are taking them to...I'm a pretty strong believer in good manners but I also believe children won't learn to be a good audience unless they are exposed to theatre and what better venue than a Disney Musical?

Good Luck... :goodvibes
