Call me old fashioned (and I am only 34!) but all this "the reception is about the bride & groom" stuff is wrong. The reception is a party you are throwing FOR YOUR GUESTS, just like hosting any other gathering. You need to take into account what makes them comfortable and happy. The WEDDING and the MARRIAGE are about the bride & groom. Think about it, how comfortable are Great-Grandma and old Aunt Helen going to be sitting on a bale of hay??? IMHO, you have to put your guests first when hosting ANY kind of gathering, that is more important than doing what you want because YOU like it.
If thats how you feel there is always declining the invite to the recpetion if you don't feel it meets your expectations
