the day we depart, we leave for the airport at 5:00ish....checkout is at 11:00ish.

We plan on leaving our stuff with the bell stand at AKL for the day while we hit DTD and shop.

I am a l;ittle worried about leaving camera equipment and laptop with bell stand.

thoughts???

I leave my puter with Bell Services every single trip. Never had a problem.

When I stay at Ft. Wilderness tent camping, the front desk security area keeps my laptop the entire trip. (I drop by every couple of days to download pictures and check email). This may be different than bell services, as I had to sign something every time I turned it in and checked it out.

The other resort front desk services may have something similar if you wish a bit more security.

I wouldn't do it, I would be too worried. I have heard of things disappearing from bell services.

Bell services has had our laptop, camera and jewelry many, many times while we were waiting for our room to be ready on check in day. We have never once had a problem.

I would leave it with no worries.

Enjoy!

We left our camera, video camera and portable DVD with AKL bell services. I was kind of worried, however, we had no problems.

DH and I have left our laptops many times, no problems!

I do carry my jewelry though. I don't take much, but I do carry that with me.

Frankly I would rather leave the camera and laptop with Bell Services than leave it in my hot car or be lugging it around....Think the chances of it being lifted from me in the parks or the car are equal to or better than the attended luggage room... not to mention waht a day in a hot car could do to either/both of them!!

I'd never leave that kind of thing with someone I don't know. I'd be far too worried that it would go missing and thats far too much money to lose.

I thought resorts have some type of safety deposit box for guests and it's mentioned in the newsletter we get on checkin. Don't know if it's only intended for money and jewelry, however, and if there's a size limit on this.

Maybe I'm just overly cautious, but I wouldn't trust my MOM with my laptop all day. Think about it... even if it is not stolen, who knows how some goober working at the bell stand might sling it around or damge it in some other way.

I would have the bell captain note the on claim ticket the items that were checked. I know I checked my laptop once at OKW and the bell captain said he would put it in "the cage", which is a locked area of the storage room.

Just an FYI, all Bell Stands and Luggage Assistance areas have a locked security cage meant specifically for those such valuables. The only cast member that has a key is typically the Bell Captain or Dispatcher.

I left my laptop with bell services twice without a problem. Carried my camera though (brought it to use it after all).

This changes my answer to yes.

Just a little FYI on this. Most states have something called something like an "innkeeper's statute." The statute says that if the resort offers you the option of using their safe-deposit box, their liability is limited to some pittance (maybe like $100) if anything is stolen out of your room. I don't know Florida law exactly, but this is doubtlessly the reason why this is mentioned in the newsletter. This only applies to room theft in many states, but since they have to offer the safe, you can ask to use it for bell services too.

I think bell services are generally safe. You should tell the staff that you have valuables. What I have done at times is ask whether my items are insured. Usually when you ask that, they get really serious and take extra care with your stuff. They also want to offer you lockup service, since, as noted above, it reduces their liability for theft from rooms. I think many people feel the opposite way -- like if they mention to the staff that they have valuables that they are more at risk, but I think it's actually the exact opposite.

We arrive early every year.. around 8:30am and we check everything with Bell Services and so far... never had a problem... but to be honest, one thing I do is I place locks on my luggage once I get my bags from the airlines. I take my laptop every year but I do password protect it so that if someone did try to take a peek inside, I'm protected.

Living in a resort city and working in the gaming industry, one day we received a security alart about people who worked at a bell desk and were gaining access to person ID information through laptops people had checked with them. I trust the bell staff at Disney to a point and I will always check my luggage so I can enjoy my visit but I do not overly trust anyone and take steps to protect myself.

I don't think you'll have a problem with checking your things with the bell staff.

We left our digital camera at the front desk at the Poly, and when we returned it was gone. They did give us some monetary reimbursement according to the "Innkeepers Act", but it was a far cry from what it cost.

I would do it. It's the same as leaving fragile items in your room while you are at the parks. The houskeeper enters the room to clean, anything could happen. I don't see why leaving your laptop and camera with bell service for a short period of time would be any different. Not trying to sound crazy or anything. But who wants to carry around a laptop while they shop?

DH leaves his golf clubs in the luggage room for our entire trip. Not once have they been damaged and if they did come back damaged then the CSR would be responsible for they were not given to them damaged.

Me personally I would not be worried about it. I would just let bell service person know that those two items are fragile and go and enjoy myself before I leave Disney.

We left our laptop and video camera with at Pop and at AKL on our recent trip, and it was fine. Both times I made sure to point out the laptop and say, "just please be sure that that one will be secure" and was assurred that they understood what was in the case and that it would be secure. After all, it is left in room every day anyway. There is always a risk when you travel with those things even if you carry them with you. If I was too worried, I'd leave it at home.
