We are going in Aug and usually take the first flight at 6AM. If we wait to fly out till 1:30PM, its about $330 less (total) for our outbound flight. We would lose most of the day at the parks as we would only be landing at 4:30, but its not like this is our first or last trip. We also have APs bought for last Aug trip, so we could go to the park just for dinner or a few rides. I'm tempted to save the $ even though I've always been willing to spend much more for just a few hours in the past...

I’d take the later flight. If you had a very ambitious schedule, it would make sense to get the earliest start. But $300 is a very nice savings. We’re taking a 7:00 a.m. flight next month (partly because that’s one of the cheapest times), but also because we’re on a quick (for us) 3-night trip and arriving later would make no sense anyway. Save the money and have a great time!

I would say that it depends. If you’re paying for a park ticket that day, do you feel like you’re wasting money by not being at the park although you were saving money on the plane? If you are not paying for a park ticket that day but you’re paying for the room, then you can ask yourself is it worth spending the whole day at the pool for $330. Regardless of my opinion, I think what’s most important is where you see your money, time and vacation experience and how you value it.

We have a trip coming in September, and I can tell you what our plans will be if you would like but right now I want to just comment on what you think is right for you and your family and your vacation.

As someone who is scheduled for a 6am flight in a few days...I say no. BUT if you use the savings and add a day???

I'd take the later flight. You could be in the parks for dinner and fireworks or whatever. Especially since you have passes.

I'd probably take the savings. You didn't say how long you are staying. We unually have long vacations so a few hours wouldn't bother us.

I sleep on the plane, so I have no problem with early flights.
I guess it would depend on what I was missing out on by taking the later flight.
Are you going to miss out on $ 300 worth of fun by taking a later flight ?

6am flight here for our August trip. To save that much I’d take the later flight. However it’s nice to arrive at WDW bright and early. Keep in mind that the earlier the flight the less likely you’ll be delayed also. So there are trade offs.

Since you have APs and go often, I would definitely save the money and take the later flight.

I had this dilemma as well! We ended up deciding to fly in the evening before check in and stay at an airport hotel, with continental breakfast and a free shuttle, and it only cost $89 a night. Is this a possibility for your group? We will be able to get in the evening before, rest and sleep peacefully knowing we didn’t miss a day in the parks. In your case if flight schedules are comparible you could still save $230 by leaving the evening before and getting an airport hotel with shuttle. The thinking is that we get up when breakfast starts, shuttle back to the airport to catch the magic express. They have no qualms with transporting you the day after you arrive. Only downfall is you may need to take your bags with you unless ofcourse you have the specialized tags on them (disney will get them there so long as they are labeled) and have an overnight carry-on bag with you!

I'd probably take the later flight…a day before! We will often take an evening flight the night before we were actually checking in, and then we either stay at the Hyatt MCO, or if it's not too late, we book a value room for the night and then transfer to our resort the next morning.

We like doing this too but we often fly after school, like a 6-7:00 flight or later. For a 1:30pm flight, it would be boring to sit around MCO four hours but I guess that depends how long OP’s flight is.
