Dh called me up and asked me if I wanted free tickets to the britney spears/kelly clarkson concert in Atlanta. I told him only if he could find a babysitter on 3 days notice!

He said no I mean taking everyone (aka our whole family). I let the girls listen to the music on the radio but I'm not sure they are ready for a concert :confused3 The youngest is almost 6 and her sister is 7.

They have never been to a concert (heck I have never been to a concert!) I'm sorta torn on taking them but if we don't go for free it's not ever going to happen.

Apparently MWR got some freebies to share :thumbsup2

I can handle honest opinions ;) but having never gone to one myself I don't know if they are tame enough for the kids or not kwim?!

EDIT I think it's Jordin Sparks and Britney, not kelly clarkson but I'm waiting to hear back for confirmation. Either way BS is there.

Kelly Clarkson definitely, Britney no way. Why are they touring together? When I think of KC, I think of America's sweet pop star, when I think of Britney I think of America's s*x popstar. I wouldn't bring my 11 year old.

Free tickets and the whole family is going? I would do it if I thought my girls would want to go and are fans.

However alas, no such luck. They are into alternative rock and loathe "pop rock".:headache: Although I was able to see Backstreet Boys with my oldest way back when.

She was about 4th grade maybe?

It depends on your kids and how they handle crowded venues.

NO WAY. I have a friend whose dh runs our arena and always gets free tickets. When Brittany came here a few years ago, she didn't take her DD, around 8 or 9 at the time, but took the teenager she had babysit for her occassionally!

See that's kinda how I'm thinking. I asked to see if I was a bit off.

I have no idea why they are together. I'm just going off what he heard through work, I can't even find kelly clarkson tour dates for GA in 2009. I can find the britney circus tour info though. Hmmm.

I found Jordin Sparks as an opener for her, maybe that's what he said, he mumbled a little on the phone and I might have misheard him. She's opening. Anyone know if I can just take them to Jordin Sparks part and then leave? Is that rude or anything? I figure if we didn't pay it's not like wasting money.

Yes, you can do that. You are free to leave at anytime, they won't chain you to your seats for the whole show:laughing:
When I took dd to see Hannah Montana, the Jonas Brothers opned for her. We were sitting a few rows in front of a season tix booth that was filled with screeching teen girls. After the JB's they ALL left leaving the booth completely empty.
I would definitely take them to see Jordin for the opening and leave before Brit comes on. I have taken my dd to a couple concerts, and have never had any problems, and she has some great memories.

Sure, why not? I saw her open for NSync when I was in middle school. My first concert was MC Hammer when I was 6. My 3 year old sister actually fell asleep during it.

I would say a resounding NO to Britney. Two reasons:

1) The show is probably not appropriate for a child that age. From what I have heard, it's a lot of half-dressed guys and gals gyrating around the stage. Plus some of her songs are not kid-friendly.

2) You could buy her the Britney CD, turn it up loud and get the same experience. :goodvibes Seriously, I don't think she actually sings much at her shows - it's more about going to see HER and not so much the music.

But if you get a chance to see Kelly Clarkson - GO. I saw her a week and a half ago and it was incredible. That girl can sing circles around some of these other "pop stars." And she actually sings in her concerts, versus using a sound track, which is a plus with me. :thumbsup2

I personally think her shows are geared more toward adults and teens...kind of like Madonna's. I would not feel comfortable sitting there watching it with my seven year old. But it's all your family's personal ideals. I would have no problem taking my DD 7 to a Jordin Sparks concert, though.

I don't think my kids would enjoy it because it's too loud, too late at night, and they're going to be shorter than everyone else around them so it'll be hard to see. (they're 9 & 10)

I'm looking forward to going to a few concerts with them when they're still young enough to need "mom" around but old enough to be able to enjoy it on a semi-adult/teenage level.

They dance so the whole half naked thing isn't a big deal with us, and good luck trying to hear those lyrics at that decible level, anyway-especially if ol' Brit actually tried to sing them herself :lmao:.

Sorry but another mom voting no due mainly to sexual content of Britney's shows, extremely loud, dark, late at night...

I, too, have heard that the Britney concerts are NOT kid-friendly--AT ALL. Heard it's R to NC-17 rated, to put it in movie terms. No way would I take kids that young. Sorry.

Also, not sure if Kelly Clarkson is 'better' yet--she canceled her concert at the State Fair here over the weekend...course, it may not even be her you could be seeing...

OP I re-read your post and noticed YOU have never been to a concert? You can always check it out and leave if you feel uncomfortable. You can just stay for the opening person and then go after that.

Alright, I have to admit I like the Circus CD....now I run away....:lmao:

Concert, yes.

That concert, no.

Britney has grown up and her audience is grown ups now and she performs accordingly.

I did take them to see Demi Lovato. She is more rock than Briney was at the age, but the music was clean as was her performance. (but she still "rocked".;))
