Only you guys know what is right for your family situation, but I will say this...sometimes an already employed person is more attractive to potential employers.

That is exactly what I was going to say. every potential employer looks at the resume and sees how long a person has been unemployed. Fairly or unfairly, it will be one of the determining factors.

Didn't read the other responses, so I may be repeating, but when my DH got his last job before the current one, it was found through a headhunter, and ended up being less money at first because he was employed through a temporary agency until the 90-day trial period was up. Benefitted the company because all they had to do when they didn't like someone was call the temp agency and tell them to call the person and tell them not to come back to work; they didn't actually have to physically fire anyone.

After the probation period was over, DH was placed in regular employment by the company with good salary, benefits, etc.

Good luck job hunting,

Steph

here is more news.. he has an interview on friday!! and... now the guy called and said the position changed to employee not contractor and they have medical benefits!! still the same low salary but we'll make do.

Cross your fingers!

oh and also he can start tuesday if he gets the job!

tassie42,

I wish your husband the very best. I know it is hard, but please try to remember that everything happens for a reason. Years ago my DH worked on Wall St. as a foreign exchange broker. He kept getting laid off as compainies got smaller. The last time he was laid off, he decided to go back to school. Well him getting laid off turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The last employer he had was in the Twin Towers. I thank God every day that he was no longer at that job. Today, he is a third year pediatric resident who will be graduating from the hospital on June 22. We are all so proud of him.

Hang in there. Our thoughts are with you all.

That's great! I know the salary cut is no fun, but what a relief to get the medical benefits.
I agree with what a lot of folks have said, finding and negotiating a job while employed is much easier than when unemployed. There is also the opportunity to move up within the co.

We were in a similar situation at one time and remember how stressful it was.
Wishing you the best. Hope to hear that DH is at work first thing Tues!

Well I think there's your answer! The job is already getting better (with medical benefits) -so now I even MORE feel that it would be best to take the job and just keeping looking for an even better job. :)
